Hi

I would like to have a bare minimum of fonts in my Fonts folder. I only use a few fonts, and none in Asian languages.

I've read the advice to leave the fonts alone and hide rather than uninstalling them, but in a number of programs they don't get hidden, even after I've hidden them in \Windows\Fonts. and every time I want to choose Times New Roman, my preferred default font, I have to scroll down about 6 screenfuls of fonts I don't want and would never use, like Sim Sun and Ravie and Simplified Arabic.

It would help if I knew which fonts I must keep so as not to upset Windows 7's digestion. Is there a list anywhere of the absolutely essential W7 fonts? I've googled for one without success.

Thanks,

Mary

This isn't a solution to your question but instead of scrolling all 6 pages you could just hit "T" and it will jump to the fonts beginning with T for Times New Roman.

Hi and welcome to sevenforums

Its not just windows you need to worry about. There is a list of the default fonts but if you remove a font that an app needs you will break the app.

I have an alternate idea. To prevent windows from loading the fonts all you have to do is move them to another folder. They wont load and therefor will not display. Should you need a font you can move just that one back

Hope this helps

Hi Ken

Thanks, but I can't remove many of the fonts without taking ownership of the folder - and if I remove the truly horrible fonts that Office 2007 installs, it just reinstalls them the next time I open any office program. It seems I'm stuck with a list of 273 fonts, only a dozen of which I use or want.
