Got a new laptop for Mother's Day. I want to backup everything to put on my new puter. I have the backup drive set up but just opens to the last backup I did last year. Don't remember what buttons to push to get it started....

I had to get 8.1 BUT was told when 10 comes out I will get a FREE copy of it from Microsoft . And I was told 10 is the new 7!!!!!! Is that correct???????

Please somebody I want to set it up before I go to bed. It is 12:40a.m. now....Yawn.....

Thanks so much.....

Do you mean you want to make an image ?

If you want to backup your data, just do it manually, copy and paste, or use your preferred method.

Backup and Restore is in the Control Panel.

Windows 10 IS NOT the new Windows 7

Nothing will ever replace Windows 7

"Don`t you have any flash drives or an external hard drive ?" I want to back it up on my external hard drive.

This is what I used....
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html
I ran it last year named it " WindowsImageBackup 4 24 2014". This time I didn't name it. Must have missed a step.....I see nothing....no C drive back up, C documents, C Drive pics. D drive backup.
I could try to copy and paste I suppose.... I do have a folder named Dell Laptop. A folder in it named Backup of 2015-05-14 but nothing openable in it... 5a.m. back to bed. Will deal with this later....

Thanks Add RAM for your suggestion.
Why would the salesperson tell me that ???? He knew I did not 8 coming in...Will it be close to 7????? I love my 7.....

You will be offered a "free upgrade" to Win 10 if you now have Win 7, 8, or 8.1.

Probably in August.

There are a lot of unknown details about the offer, so don't jump to any conclusions yet.

Windows 10 is not yet fully baked, so whether you'd want it remains to be seen. You'll have a year to either accept or reject the free offer. Windows 7 will be supported until 2020, so you've got plenty of time to decide when and whether you want to move to Windows 10 or whatever else Microsoft may come up with.
