How to get favorites back in Windows?

I somehow accidentally deleted all my favorites, now it's just nothings under favorites, which makes everything inconvenient when saving and explorer files.

How can I get them back?

HAve you tried system restore to before event happened, if so and no joy, have a read of this tutorial by Brink and see if it helps.

In Windows Explorer, you can drag folders to "Favorites" and a link will be created there.

Right click on Favorites and you'll see.

Shadow Explorer may help you recover your Favorites. Give it a try:

Recover Files with Shadow Copies on Any Version of Windows Vista

Says Vista but works for Vista, 7, 8 and 10.

Actual download is from here: ShadowExpolorer.com - Downloads but the info on HowToGeek is worth reading to understand what it does for you.

Get the Portable version (.zip) then unzip it and run ShadowExplorerPortable.exe to use it, no need to install it unless you want to.

NO, I have Camtasia only since a few weeks. That looks like the MS Expression Encoder 4 which I used at that time.

Thanks, that's why I brought it up. The 2008 tutorial was just my first attempt. But it got a lot of attention at the time.

Thanks for the replies. But unfortunately I deleted my favourites long time ago, when I first installed Windows, so recovering is out of the option.

So I tried to drag Lehn mentioned, but I can not because there is a red prohibition sign, and when I right click and choose add the current location to favourites and nothing happens.

Do I lack admin access or something?

I'm confused. If you deleted them that long ago, what exactly are you trying to recover?

The Favorites folder is still there and should be useable. Are you saying you can't save new favorites?

Maybe your OS has become corrupted/damaged.

Have you tried running sfc?

Open the Command Prompt (Use the "Run as administrator" option in the context menu).

Type:

sfc /scannow
