Solved How to get motherboard connections

lenovo [FONT=Times New Roman, serif]K430 desktop, out of warranty, after two failed motherboards from lenovo I gave up and bought a new pc.[/FONT]

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif] However, not wishing to waste the hardware in the lenovo, (i7cpu 3rd gen) I obtained a new, less powerful[/FONT]

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]board, it is a Asrock H61M-DGS R2.0. The problem I have, is that the connections in my pc do not fit [/FONT]

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif] the board, apart from ATX power and 12 volt power, is there a way round this, or have I goofed again? As [/FONT]

Prebuilt manufacturers usually use proprietary hardware for their Desktops.

I've had the same problem with the Biostart G41D3+ Motherboard, the motherboard that came with my Prebuilt (MSI MS-7525) is made specifically on HP a6000 series Desktop case. The Power connector, HDD light, 20+4 Pin, were too far from the plug that it didn't fit so I bought a new case.

You need to buy yourself a new case

swapping motherboards on a comp INVALIDATES an OEM licence key.

Hi, thanks for replies guys, I have retail disc for Windows 7.
It is cables that came with case that do not fit, so a new power supply will not help.
The cables that do not fit are a different size, IE. more pins, different make up, audio, com, panel, etc., so I take you to mean I buy case to specifically fit type of motherboard? Thanks again.

New power supplies come with new wiring
I'd get a modular one and you can use just the cables you need

But yes the original oem power supply is only good for the oem mother board seems to me.

He`s talking about the front panel connections, the power, reset, headphone, mic etc. he`s not talking about the power supply.

newbytinkerer, the only way to do what you want is to customize those cables by cutting them and getting the type that come with todays atx cases

Either that or as Roastermen said buy a new case for the Asrock board.

A new case is the way to go, considering the proprietary connectors. As previously noted this is a common problem with OEM PC's. I used to work the Dell forums and the same issue with older Dell's that had a proprietary (and undocumented) front panel connector.

34 Pounds (approx.) will get you a nice case.

Okay yea I had fun just on a new case how to get some of the connection to work
I settled on the power button and usb3 ports working
I never use the headphone connection so I left that alone
No documentation on my old acer board around so it was all trial and error

I'd still get another psu though the factory one has to still be a piece of junk.

The OP gets a new mobo, then possibly needs a new psu, and a new case - when does this become a new computer. It's a bit like the Greek legend Ship of Theseus.

I've got to admit most of my pcs started out as something quite different and morphed into their present setup.

Dell Power Supplies are not bad though (Except if you find a "BESTEC" brand with it, check the revision)
