Solved How to get rid of "SHORTCUT" on a shortcut

I found the 2010 solution and tried it. It worked ONCE. Then stopped working.
When I chg it manually then go back in, the first number is a DIFFERENT number.
It seems to be incrementing.
I just chg it, test it, doesn't work, go back to reg and it is gone from 1b to 1c to 1d.
Why is it incrementing?
Is there another way to stop this shortcut thing?

W7 ultimate x64

that is what was posted 4 yrs ago. as i said, i tried it and it worked once now it is doing strange things.

The tutorial was posted in 2008, so I was just double checking to see if the 2010 one you mentioned was the same or not.

Do you have any 3rd party utility program installed that may have a setting for this and overriding it?

In addition, double check the registry location below to see if it's set to 00 00 00 00 as well.

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-your account's GUID number\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Substitute the part in red for the one for your user account.

For example: S-1-5-21-2398252893-3971982811-3240108950-1001

I'm sure I did that already, but I tried it once more and it survived a reboot.
Maybe it is fixed this time.
