Solved How to go back to my Old Firefox

I updated to Firefox Quantum, and I hate it. I tried to install my Firefox 56 back, and when I thought I did, it ended up being the darn Quantum again. Is there a way to get my old one back without Firefox, automatically updating. Thanks for any help.....

Thought Auto Updates of Firefox was user defined via Options ?

Did you try uninstalling Firefox first, before reinstalling version 56?

After installing 56, go through all of the preferences, and tell it not to install updates. That option should be on the General tab.

Install firefox portable (whichever version you like) in 'C:\'. After its to your liking, save the 'Profile' folder somewhere else "on a thumb drive!!" (or save the whole lot of it). FF portable does not change/modify your registry. Delete C:\FirefoxPortable & its ALL gone. Reinstall 'the whole lot' you saved, or newer version & replace the 'profile' folder with the saved one, , , ,

I just installed Firefox 56 on a new Windows 8.1 VM. It immediately began updating itself to 57. Here's how you can stop that from happening:

• Install 56.
• Under Preferences, go to the General tab.
• Tell it not to update.

By the time you do all of this, it will have updated itself to 57. So now you need to go to Control Panel / Programs and Features, and uninstall Firefox 57.



Now reinstall Firefox 56. This time, it will remember the settings from the previous install (i.e. "do not upgrade Firefox"), and it won't try to upgrade you again.

Thanks, I did have a problem, so as of now it is still the Quantum, and I cannot stand it. I will, for sure try this.

Install firefox ESR 56. It'll last you until 2018 and you'll get the current updates and old design.

Waterfox and Palemoon offshoots of FF..

Dissabling auto updates is bad practise, they also include security items, and unfortunately are bundled in with normal changes

I managed to get back FF 56.. only problem is one add on I use alot, will not install unless I update , Gr-r-r-r, and the reason I do not want to update is because the newest version, does not work right. They even said they were having problems, and hope to have it fixed within a few weeks. The add on was FFmovie download helper. Other than that I have my old toolbar back and everything. Also the way I did this, was to do a System Restore back to when I had 56, which was 4 days ago.

Your addon will not install until you update because of 1 reason:

It's not compatible with older versions.

There's no reason to use 56, it would end up really vulnerable as time pass.

Yeah, so the System Restore, only worked for a short time, today it is back to Quantum, and I did check in the preferences of 56 not to update, so much for that. I did manage to get all my old tool bar things back. Going to give it a try for a few days.Thanks for everyones input, when it comes to "tech" things I am a little lost. Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it!
