Solved How to go to IE10 from IE11 if it was never installed

So just to be sure,

I downloaded the Readiness Tool,
Rebooted the PC
Double Clicked the "Windows6.1-KS947821-V33-x64.msu" file
It launched an installer for "Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) Update 1 of 1"
And now appears to be stalled, with the progress bar showing no green in it at all.

There's a Checksur log in the Windows\CBS\logs folder - could you attach that too?

The SFC ran clean ...

Notwihstanding any objections from the bus driver, I suggest you (please excuse the redundancy)

[New Turn off automatic updates - set Windows Update to Check for update, let me decide...
You can leave it this way or change it to automatic after this exercise.

uninstall the IE 10 pre-reqs

restart your system

run sfc
post if it completed normally and also attach the output as you've done before.

[New run Windows update and hide anything offered
One of will have to remember to unhide them later and check for updates.

At this point, you should be at IE 8 and no IE 10 pre-reqs installed.

This is the point you install IE 9 using the standalone you downloaded from the link in UserNameIssues post. Make sure you use that download - get it fresh if necessary.

run sfc - post the log if it reported errors, otherwise, just let members know it ran through without error

run WU, but don't install - post a screen shot.

You're getting very good at this ... I hope this time will get you past the error.

I'd like to see if your drivers are up to date (WU should keep them up to par, if you're checking the optional offers - I think your previous screen shot showed only the platform update in optional updates)

Please follow this tutorial to provide the current operating environment of your machine. A member can look at the hardware and driver details to determine if they might be adding to this issue

A fresh download of the IE 10 off-line installer (see UserNameIssues post 11) is probably advisable.

You should pause after IE9 is installed and update any drivers suggested before installing IE10

ThrashZone, before I start uninstalling updates and backing up our endeavors, I'd like to wait to hear your take on next moves. If trying to get back to an environment compatible for installing IE9 is the consensus, would it be possible to get a list of exactly which KB's I should remove?

I don't believe you need to uninstall any updates :/
Just see what happens to download ie9 at this point and repeat the checksur if it fails,

The SFC doesn't seem to be complete.

Put the CBS.log in a zip folder on your desktop and attach it to a new post.

Mike and I disagree on the updates - I think they're the cause, specifically the platform update.

That means the decision is all yours.

Here are the updates related to IE10 pre-req

2670838: A platform update is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

The other pre-req KBs don't seem to be that important:
2729094: An update for the Segoe UI symbol font in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2 is available
2731771: An update that provides new APIs for conversion between local time and UTC in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 is available
2533623: Microsoft Security Advisory: Insecure library loading could allow remote code execution
2786081: Internet Explorer 10 does not save credentials for a website after you log off from or restart a computer that is running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

There were some other updates installed, so it might be better to see a list of installed updates (just the recently installed ones), sorted by install date, and work off that list.

Hold off on anything until someone can look at the full CBS.log and the list of installed updates- OK

I'd like to see the KB number and the date installed - sorted by date installed showing the most recent.

I checked my machine and found Windows Update presents updates differently (installed updates vs. View update history) - that might be my machine (running Win8)

As long as I can see the date, it will make it easier for me, that way I don't have to double check each update.

Please also attach the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

I looked at the CBS.log file and there are some things I'm not sure about (I'll ask for more help if I need it after looking at the Update history).

There are a few paths to take and I'm trying not to make it any more work for any member (including yourself) than necessary.

There's no significant errors (and no SFC results) in the posted CBS.log - please upload the two latest CBSPersist cab files (you'll have to zip them, as the forum doesn't allow upload of bare cab files)
