How to increase max storage for RestorePoints? Unlimited keep days?

How do I change the amout of storage reserved for SystemRestorePoints on partition D?

Is there a Registry entry for that?

As I found out the current number of days my RestorePoints are kept is 90 days.

How can I increase these number of days?
Is there a Registry entry for that?

If I change this number somehow to "0" does that mean unlimited?

I prefer to keep RestorePoints unlimited.
If there is not enough storage space for a new RestorePoint then the oldest should be removed.

How can I setup this "queue" RP strategy?

You would use the configure tab to manage the space used, as far as I know, that`s all you can change.

Hello Peter,

All you can do is what AddRAM (Brian) posted above to set the maximum usage for D to what you want. For unlimited on D, you could set the maximum to 100% or the slider as far right as it will go for D.

System Restore works best when used as soon as possible after a problem develops. On the few occasions when I have used System Restore it has always been the most recent restore point. There were compromises built into System Restore to keep the size of restore points down to a reasonable size. The further back you go the more likely that the restore will fail or cause more problems than it solves. Microsoft knows this better than anybody and that is why the time period was limited to 90 days. In my view that is already a stretch.

If the space for restore points was actually set to zero (as I am sure could be done in the registry) it would essentially turn System Restore off. This would delete all existing restore points. There is no recovery of deleted restore points.

If you really need the ability to restore the system back that far a better solution is to maintain image backups.
