Do you have Firefox installed also? And have the Flash plugin for that installed as well? If not, you might try installing that as well anyway. I see all kinds of people with your problem, all links to answers are at the Gameranger forum, which you can only access if you have Gameranger installed.
Click on Support> Discussion Forums

Also, make sure Flash is enabled in IE (which version of IE do you have?)
Tools (Gear icon upper right)> Manage add-ons> Make sure that Shockwave Flash Object is enabled (I suspect it is)

Do you have Gameranger installed? It may help to install IE10 or IE11 too.

I had the same problem too, I have windows 8.1 and the last version of IE, I installed the flash player again and it works fine for me !

Take a look at this screenshot from VLC installer and see if it rings a bell:
If these checkboxes are not selected on installation it's not possible to use VLC to play video through a browser.
I suspect that this might be the issue for your software.
Other than that it sometimes helps to remove flash player using the removal tool from adobe then clean install flash player.
You'd need to follow all of the steps listed here:

Most people just run the uninstaller and forget the rest of the instuctions.

I solved the problem.
Go to Adobe Flash Player Install for all versions and select your operating system. Then from the version dropdown menu select the one for Firefox, even if you do not have it. Download and install it.
