How to install new Win 7 license to temporary Win 7 install

Hello,
I have a PC with a temporary non activated Win 7 installation and I need to install a new Win 7 license that I just purchased onto it. I don't want to install fresh because I have software (IKMultimedia) on it that has a limited number of activations. I just want to keep the existing Win 7 OS intact as is and install the new Win 7 key. Thanks.

Hello coolecho,

If the product key you purchased is for the same edition of Windows 7 you currently have installed, then you should be able to activate it with the new key without issue.

If Windows 7 is currently activated, then you can change the product key to the new key.

If Windows 7 is not currently activated, then you can just activate with the new key.

Hi Brink,

That is exactly the information I need!
I'll have to check whether my installed is the same product but I think perhaps not. I ordered "Windows 7 Professional - 64 or 32 Bit Full Version" but I think I installed "Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit".
If not same I might be able to work something out with IKMultimedia support.

If you do have W7 Home installed and the new key is for W7 Pro, then you could use Anytime Upgrade to enter your Pro key to update without losing anything.

Hello Jack,

While you can no longer use "Windows Anytime Upgrade" for the online purchase option, you should still be able to select the "Enter an upgrade key" option to upgrade.
