Hello,

I want to learn how to install Windows 7 from network but I don't want to use a cd, put it and take the the image from another computer. What I really want is to wake the computer on lan, and install the image that I want automatically, or by controlling remotely. I read some articles about it, there are ways to do it easily in Linux. And I think that "Windows Deployment Services" has this feature, but I couldn't find any satisfying tutorial.

Thanks for your answers.

I read his post differently. I think he's saying he DOES NOT want to use an image from another computer.

Having said that....

I have used imagex to apply "install.wim" to a prepared hard drive. This should at least be a step in the right direction for you.

BUT

If you're attempting to install something for which you are not licensed, you'll find little or no help here. Apologies if either of us misreads that.

This is for normal users, I'm a student and working in the computer department of a university library. I can use ONE license for all computers on the library thanks to deal between Microsoft and our library, and there are several images for different computers. Normally, we do this image deployment work with Acronis. We plug the flash drive to the computer, boot with usb and take the image via ftp. Therefore, it was not important, important thing is how to wake up the computer and manage the re-installing process, or make it automatic. If I can only reinstall new windows, not use image, how to wake up the computer and reinstall windows remotely is the question.

Thanks.

If you're an IT person for the university library with a VLA, you should be able to get all of your questions answered by Microsoft. They offer plenty of help to educational institutions.

I'd look to them for assistance. You'll probably find that a server, which gives you many more options, is quite affordable in your environment.

I only WISH I could buy Server 2008r2 at that price.
