Hello SF members.

I have one question.

One my friend have bad computer :( , but he wanted to try Windows 7.
He formated C:\ (that is only partition) and he installed Windows 7.
But Windows 7 on his computer is too slow. WEI is 1.0 (that is very laggy).

He tried it for one week , and he want to uinstall it.
He inserted Win XP CD , but when it need to format c: , there is one error.
Aplication cant initizal (or etc.). Press Ok to terminate it. And that is always on 20%.
He tried with quick and normal format but nothing. Always is same.

I went to he. I deleted all paritions, formated all from Windows 7 installation but its same. All same error.

Is it broken CD or is there any other problem ?

I dont want Virtual PC or dual boot, because hes computer is too old (7 years) and slow , and he have only 38GB Hard Drive.

Thanks in advance.

At this point you have nothing to lose. I would try Partition Wizard boot CD. Delete all partitions. Then create a partition using 20% of the available space and make it a Linux partition. The next partition make it primary active. See if Windows will format and install on it. For XP 30 GB is plenty of space. If the HD is on the way out it may not last long. On the other hand, if it just has a bad spot 20% in, you may get a year out of it. :)

I suspect though the PC is so "slow" because it's doing retries trying to read from the HD.
