How to know what drivers you will need for clean install.

If it is your computer, you pretty much should know what hardware is inside it. If not, you should know model numbers and brand so you can look it up on the appropriate website, Dell, HP, etc..

I should rephrase my question. What is the coprocessor? I do not know what one is. In the other tutorials on coprossesors it seems that one says it is a chipset driver which I guess means motherbaord? And another says it is a bios thing. Another says it is processor which in my case is amd dual core tk55. I looked that up on the amd site and found nothing on coprocessors. I know whats on my computer but what is this thing?

The base system drivers are almost always built-in card readers which will have their drivers on the HP Support Downloads webpage for your exact model.

The Co-Processor normally shows up without driver with an Nvidia chipset. Look for the chipset on the same HP webpage. If it isn't available there we will have to research your chipset to look up maker's Support Downloads webpage, likely Nvidia.

Thanks Gregrocker. I fixed the ricoh 5 card reader driver from HP. 2 yellow !marks went away 1 to go-coprocesser.
From device manager there is no way of telling what is missing. When they put those yellow warning signs your just at a lost. But since the update failed on Ricoh 5 card reader then I guess that was a place to start.

So I was at HP already while I was waiting for you to respond and I typed the word coprocessor in the search box just for kicks and it gave me this very informative page. Resolving Coprocessor Error Message Compaq Presario V6620US Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
But I treid the fix on that page and I still had the yellow icon in device manager.
But Now I new that it was Nvidea chipset driver so I downloaded the one for my model and after install no yellow mark. Yay!

Your hobby of clean install is my MO also. I bet your house is neat and clean too!
I love how small my sw setup folder is! Never seen it so small.

PS. My system base score went up .6 points on my gaming and graphics and went down on desktop graphics .6 points. Yet I didn't change out any hardware and I have the same driver for the display. Hmmm. 3.1 is my base score instead of 2.5 so I'm not complaining. I guess windows 7 does a better job at using what i have.

If you had built the system yourself, you'd know which chipset you chose. If it is an OEM system, like an HP, you don't need to do the digging, because the manufacturer's website will list all the necessary drivers for you.

I've done hundreds of clean reinstalls of factory OEM and every one turned out better without the factory lard. HP is the worst at stuffing all that crapware in there.

If you made your HP Recovery disks, you can extract any needed apps from them using this method: Extract HP 3rd Party Software from RecovCD

Did you delete the HP Recovery Partition along with all others before clean reinstall? It's unlikely it will run now anyway, but you can try to cue it up from boot to see and feel free to delete it if it doesn't boot: HP Backup and Recovery Manager

Hey Greg Thanks for the Info thats nice of you.

I erased the system restore 1.5 years ago. I did not make back up disks. I was new to computers. I bought a restore disk from Hp to do a reinstall, then a friend gave me 7 pro. Nice!

I won't miss any programs from Hp that I can think of.
I copied swsetup folder from my vista install anyways.

QuickPlay isn't in ...I cleaned that out along time ago. I started to not like HP. I think they just got blamed for all my computer frustrations. so I got rid of everything I could that had their name on it. Got every last file and chucked them LOL
Like I said I'm a clean freak.

Now I got to tweak this bad boy. No just kidding I got to cool it down with the house cleaning and actually learn to use some programs beside Netfilx.

Did you know you can get 45 miles/gallon in ford exporer. You just have to clean it up a little. Like remove the body the seats the windows the ac and remove the dash board and all the emmisions stuff. Works great! Get 60mpg staying 10 feet behind a 18 wheeler.

By the way can I use something else besides silverlight? To watch netflix? I hate silverlight too. Don't ask why.

Will I need something from the swsetup folder? you know..from HP.

Cull the logs for any repeat errors and tap System Resources to resolve issues which can avoid future problems: troubleshooting steps

I've always used Silverlight so someone else will have to answer the question about alternatives. If necessary post up the question in the forum here that matches best.

Have any newer display drivers arrived via optional Updates, or posted on HP Downloads webpage for your model or the display adapter's model?

None are missing nor any errors.

I have many many repeat event errors. I'm glad you pointed them out.
I typed solutions in windows start menu and it reports no problems or solution.
I did however give permission to have solutions auto checked and reports sent if needed. Is this bad?
I love all of your tips. I have to do the event viewer then startups and then services black viper.


This is why doing drivers gets so frustrating.
This is what Hp lists for graphics driver. I assume that this means Display driver as I can't find a Display one. Graphics is the same as display right?

In Hp it is 1 number off literally.

The dates on all these drivers are so close I can't think that they are different.
So I assume they are the same.

Btw I haven't told you the best tip for better gas mileage. Get rid of...and I don't know why anyone would ever think of such a gas waisting mechanism........brakes.

I would not edit Services with Black Viper as you will gain no performance advantage and probably cause unexpected consequences. Win7 no longer needs those kinds of performance clawbacks because all Services not absolutely needed at boot are on Manual fast triggers. It has become the Black Viper.

Video cards as well as chips are listed in Device Manager as Display Adapter.

I can only get a list from them for vista 32 drivers. They say they have no drivers for windows 7. So should I look somewhere else? I have to know the names again. video cards and chipset drivers. I tried a more recent chipset driver when trying to fix the yellow error in device manager and it didn't work. It is because I have to use their drivers specific for my model they won't put the new one up on the board for my laptop model.
It won't let me rep you again yet.

Work through the most persistent repeat errors by googling the text and error number to see how others have resolved them. I try to end up with no repeat errors this way.

Let's ask Wolfgang who made the Data Partition video to help you through this since he is best at it.

I would not use a driver program as Win7 is the expert on its own drivers via the installer and then optional Windows Updates. Only if there are performance issues which can be traced to driver would I change it out.

Driver sweeper is a program that removes all traces of the previous drivers. I have installed over 3 drivers.

I have two drivers giving me performance errors still. The motherboard driver and the apci or something. I'm watching the errors to see if they persist. Since I did 2 repairs recently. Windows did the repairs and I don't know what it did on one of them. I downloaded what they wanted me too. It was 188mb big! Yet it did only a tweak or something.... took 2 sec literally.... to do whatever it did. 2 minutes to download and 2 sec to tweak something. I have so many performance warnings and errors that I cannot get a grip on.

I did ask Wolfgang, if you read the tutorial I'm in it. He did not respond to my last post. I restored all the files back to c drive. All folders and file stuff seems to work except I get search indexing errors. I think it has something to do with what I erased. I really don't care about indexing issues, I un-indexed vista when I had it. I used a file search program called Everything. It is lightning fast. I'm thinking of un-indexing 7, but I have no Idea how it would affect Libraries. It might be a bad Idea.

Windows is telling me I should upgrade my graphics card or turn off Aero, or a couple of other similar tweaks. can't believe HP won't work on win7 drivers. They suck! I have read another person who had a laptop only a year and a half old. She upgraded to win7 and she is having issues also and Hp will not provide win7 drivers.

Do they not support upgrading the os's on any of their systems?
Are they all made specific for an Os version and then they kick you to the curb if you want to upgrade? Hp is like Bic lighters....... disposable! Made only to last until the next windows version, then throw it out get new one.

What I would do is type Indexing in Start Search box, on Indexing Options panel select the folders you want ot have indexed then click on Advanced Options then Rebuild Index. Win7 indexing works flawlessly once set up correctly or rebuilt.

I'd go ahead and import the chipset for your model computer or mobo from the Support Downloads webpage.

Find out the exact make/model display adapter and look for the latest Win7 or Vista driver on the manufacturer's website. Hardware Identification

It is possible that you have location problems with your folders if you made a mistake when moving them. Could you please post a picture of the Properties of "My Documents" so that I can have a look.

Your Documents did not get moved to a Data Partition. They are still sitting on C - right? Are the others the same?


The error message you are getting seems to come from the search server and has something to do with indexing. From here I can only speculate: It is possible that the files you deleted were present when the index was built and since you deleted them, indexing cannot find them any more.

Can you possibly switch the indexing off and make a straight search?
