Solved How to make onscreen/window text bold?

How do you make the window text bold? When I go into window appearance options, the font settings are greyed out for window text. I have really bad vision and making everything bold would help. By the way, I already tried cleartype settings and that didn't help.

As far as I'm aware the only way to change the 'Window' font is via a registry change - Please see Change the default System Fonts in Windows 7 - davidjnice.com

HOWEVER MAJOR HEALTH WARNING: Please backup your registry before attempting and don't try unless you are experienced with Registry Editing - you can cause yourself a lot of grief if you make a mistake.

Thanks, however I cannot find where it shows how to make the default text bolder. This only shows how to change the font from Segoe UI to Tahoma.

Just edit to Segoe UI Bold instead of Tahoma.

In your case I would also recommend to increase the DPI setting here: Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display

Go 150% for a 22" screen and 125% for a 15" screen.

Lol.....how? I have no idea what I'm doing here, which is why I am looking for specific directions. This is really important. I recently had eye surgery and trying to read tiny letters is putting more strain on my eyes than normal, so I need someone to help me out with this, step by step if needed.

I have already tried this and it only makes the letters bigger, not bolder. I need them to be bolder, not bigger in size...

By seeing this you prompted me to explore this area again and I was able to find the right setting. Thank you very, very much.

However, for some reason when I first went in there the "B" (bold) button was greyed out under the "Window" item and would not let me click it. The window text became bold under another setting, I believe it was Message Box .

Just spend a little time in there looking at things. It takes a little tinkering with size and colors.

Keep in mind things will change when you do certain things.
Like using Safe Mode and a few other things. You will notice the change and you will have to set them again.

The Bold button when not activated will look faded just tick on it and it should darken like in the picture I posted. If it doesn't the Bold opting is not their for your other selections.
