How to make Windows Media Player not to access DVD each time it starts?
Now I disabled the DVD in the Device Manager, but is there another method?

You can modify your 'AutoPlay' options from Windows Control Panel. Where is says Choose a default switch it to Take no action.

Well, you can also change your Default Programs from Control Panel ... Click on Media Player and 'Choose defaults for this program'. I would have thought simply turning off AutoPlay options would prevent anything from happening upon putting a disc into your drive. By disabling the device in Device Manager, you are disabling the device completely, not just turning it off for DVDs. I suppose if you have no need for an optical disc at all then this is fine.

I guess maybe I am not understanding your question.

If you can access the BIOS of your system, you can change the boot order and/or turn off the ability to boot from CD. I would not recommend this though. This would prevent you from ever being able to boot to a rescue CD ...

Best Wishes,

Please, how changing default programs will affect WMP when it is started alone or playing a file from the hard drive?

Now that I look at the options, it may not. I was thinking that DVD may be an option, or at the least, .IFO or .VOB formats. As a matter of fact, my Default Settings for VideoLan DO include those DVD formats, so maybe this IS still an option for you.

If you uncheck .IFO and .VOB files from your Media Player, 'Choose defaults for this program' it will no longer open DVD movies by default.

Are you having a problem that if you do have a DVD in your drive Media Player is giving your problems? OR are you trying to stop Media Player opening when you put a disc in your drive?

I have this problem even if there is no disk in DVD drive. When I start WMP it probes the drive.

Hmmm, I do use Media Player, along with VideoLan. I don't think Media Player does that on my system. It may be a Media Player setting, but I can not imagine which ... On this system, with no CD in the drive, Media Player does NOT poll the CD Drive.

I confess, I am not sure what's going on with your system and do not know how to help you.

Also the same problem happens when I insert an USB flash drive: the system probes the DVD. Why?
