How to remove "Pin to Taskbar" context menu?

and "Pin to Start Menu"? Also, as a bonus if someone can help me with removing "Run as administrator" I've scoured Google and only a few results provided me a registry trick, but that doesn't work on all applications.

The one in my screenshot is an explorer.exe shortcut (.lnk file) on my quick launch bar and seems to be the only application shortcut I can't figure out how to remove. I think reg hack used to work prior to some Windows update patch:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\explorer.exe --> right-click the right hand pane and create an empty String value named IsHostApp (then reboot or restart explorer.exe via the Task Manager).

Wow. I was doubtful that guide would help me, but the first part actually provided me the hint I wanted. Thanks, Imperfect1! :grouphug:

I removed these two registry sub-branches without needing to restart explorer.exe:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{90AA3A4E-1CBA-4233-B8BB-535773D48449}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}

I guessed on those two correctly when I saw some key words like "pin" and "task". For those who are interested, make sure to back up your registry as always

Good job Soyabeaner! I'm so glad the article was able to provide you with some assistance, and probably more importantly, some kind of a hint of what could solve the problem. This also just happened to me yesterday. I had a huge problem with my MS Word and richc46 provided me with a couple of articles that not only pointed me in the right direction, but also gave me a hint/reminder of exactly what the problem was. I'm a clean freak, so my context menus are looking slim . Now I just have to find out how to remove "Run as administrator"...

I wouldn't go altering these options to satisfy some obsessive complusive desire to have smaller context menus. If you are doing it for security purposes, there are probably better methods to accomplish it. I'm all for a clean, efficient system, but sometimes there's no reason to muck with an OS...so it's best to follow the tried and true advice for Windows 7...leave it alone.

I have no problems with mucking around as I plan to start from scratch eventually anyway. I've come a long way from those XP trimming days . It's not like I don't have backup images, but a trivial matter of removing a context menu doesn't even warrant such need.

We've had a lot of people come in here posting threads where they've screwed up their systems messing with things for absolutely no real reason. My points were basically a point of caution....nothing more. It sounds like you have a good backup plan anyway. I keep a VM for all my tinkering needs, so when I destroy it, I can reload the file from my server.
