How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

MS will take a hit in the stock market if Win 10 flops like Win 8 did so they are pulling every underhanded trick they can think of to trick people into upgrading downgrading to Win 10 so they show off impressive numbers to give the illusion that Win 10 is a hit (taking a page chapter from Daryl Huff's book, How to Lie with Statistics), then count on the sheeple to roll over and take it.

60 million+ upgrades have taken place already..
it's the largest undertaking of it's kind - ever..
I imagine the stock market will be mightily impressed if anything..

those updates you keep getting in the background will simply make the transition smoother
they are not designed to force you into upgrading, and MS aren't reducing support for earlier OS's

Your Windows Update gets enhanced to enable it to directly update Win 10, you will get the pesky Win 10 update icon, and your computer will transmit more personal data to MS than it does already, depending on which update you allow.

I wish I had a dollar for each friend of mine who asked me what that strange, new icon was. One was looking for a new computer because her old one was a POS (underpowered; it never should have had Win 7 installed on it) and the one her brother in law bought her died shortly after she got it. She was considering a Mac and liked what she saw at the Mac store and, frankly, I could not tell her in all honesty that she would be better off not getting one, not with her lack of computer chops, all the nonsense MS has been pulling, and the direction MS has been taking. She got the Mac with my blessings.

Should not add W10 patches, because they can cause maybe some problems. If something happens rarely uncomfortable with normal patches it is very risky to be making that play.

I used WXP since I was in college and recently three years ago I update the need for a stable operating system (good reviews) and the compatibility of hardware (RAM, video), at least for some 8 years or more.

These strategies make my experience with windows now not entirely pleasant

I agree 50/50% of success is not good enough odds being people rarely if ever backup their personal files not to mention the entire os install

If errors occur which they usually will it might get ugly not to mention time consuming :/

Anything helpful is usually a double edged sword it can backfire just as easily = Murphy's law tweaked

As there for "recommended" and "optional". Perhaps creating a third tab in the menu WU to W10 can avoid a lot of headache.

There must be order and not put it all together because there could be problems later.

Well, my failure rate with Win10 upgrades far exceeds the 50/50! I have three Win7 PCs, all older boxes. Of the two I tried, the first failed early into the upgrade -- soon enough that it rolled back to Win7 without a problem. The second got farther, but failed as well. So, upon advice from a Windows 10 forum, I tried again, this time, using the ISO I downloaded. But, it failed again -- and this time, left the PC in an unusable state. I was able to repair startup and get it booting again, but it's taken me three days of hard work to get it back to the working state it was in PRIOR to the upgrade attempt.

Wouldn't be surprised if my two PCs were included in the latest stats of how many PCs are running Win10!

Downloads are so unpredictable with internet connection...
Then you get into the bootable media creation tools :/

I've had that update appear a few times now. It seems like different versions are being released and that might explain why it keeps returning!

There are so many suggestions and comments in this thread about removing the GWX notifier icon, that I'm confused on what to do without causing myself any grief.

I got curious to see the updates installed and saw more KB2952664 installed(since May 2014)
The last was on March ' (I did not install the patches on the same day, but after a few weeks.)

I do not understand. I think it is normal to have more than one right ? Because the patch appeared last year there is no problem in having more than one... right ?

You can hide any Windows Updates to do with Windows 10.
Go to Windows Updates and then right click the update to hide.
I think Microsoft wants everyone to upgrade to Windows 10.
I have decided to stay with Windows 7.

I will stay with Windows 7 too. The only other O.S I would consider is Linux Mint.
