How to repair corrupted dlls and Registry?

Unfortunately Samsung's HUTIL fails ("Abnormal program termination") both from floppy and CD. :-( I wrote to them, but am not holding my breath for a reply.

I run chkdsk /f once a week, every week.

If it's an ATA/ide drive try swapping a jumper between 'CS' cable select or 'Master' reboot
If there are any other drives on same cable - disconnect reboot
swap out Ata 100 cable in case it is faulty

I ran Samsung's HD Utility ESTool 3.01 in DOS (booted on it). I have done swapping of controllers, swapped the drives in and out the box and external enclosure.

There is nothing wrong with the drive, nor with the file organization. Some rogue program corrupted a couple of drivers and nobody seems to know how to fix them.

It's a Windows 7 issue, not hardware.

Do you know how to reflash bios - can you get hold of a fresh bios download?
Wipe the bios clean/reflash 4x-5x with the new one

I would start from there if you had a real nasty on the pc - could be bios infection affecting Windows/causing drivers not to load

No, I have never had an update from WU disable my PC as I don't let it "auto-update" I decide what is added to my system.

Clearly, YMMV. Googling "Windows Update crashes system" gets you "About 1,280,000 results (0.33 seconds)" hits.

The issue is probably with your use of "registry cleaners and several antispyware programs" that's your whole issue right there, stop using them and I can almost guarantee the issues will stop.

You are probably right, here. But, sometimes, I walk on the dark side, and "issues" have to be addressed. :-(

I think you are looking in wrong places, your problem is simply this:

I run chkdsk /f once a week, every week.

As I posted earlier, this tends to delete/truncate essential files - even with a good disk a small filesystem error will take presedence over any file in that particular space on the disk, /f grants chkdsk the right to fix this without notice, deleting anything in it's way. Chkdsk /f is never adviseable without backup of what you need first, including the OS (as /f needs to be offline on system partition, scheduled at reboot).

Also, if you have circulated this problem for months as you say without luck, my advice is to reformat, reinstall and let it go.

System images (dual boot - some old programs I need don't run on 7) are created and critical files & data, get backed up every night, the latter incrementally. The checkdisk is a habit from DOS days. I may have to refrain or use it more judiciously.

Also, if you have circulated this problem for months as you say without luck, my advice is to reformat, reinstall and let it go.

Since I reformat and fresh install annually, maybe it's time.

Thanks for the help.

How do you do this? This might solve my problem

First you have to identify your motherboard: manufacturer & model. The you go to the manufacturer's site and find the latest BIOS update. D/L the BIOS and the instructions. Follow the instructions EXACTLY as described, 'cose you can really mess up if you don't. I have an Intel DP35DP and the last BIOS update was last year. For System identification purposes I like PC Wizard 2010, but there are many others, also free, that do a good job: Everest, Belarc, SIW. You can find them all at Gizmo's

Good luck and be careful.
