Solved How to run chkdsk on Iomega networked external hard drive

I tried to run a system image to the "Backup" folder of my Iomega external hard drive three times, without success. The error message asked me to run chkdsk on both the source (my desktop) hard drive and the destination (Iomega) drive.

How can I run chkdsk on this external drive? I am willing to buy third-party software if necessary.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. I did manage to create a system image in a different folder of the external drive, but am curious about the one that failed. It contains no data and has never been used.

if you right click on your iomega in "computer" select properties and select the tools tab, there is an option to check the disc for errors.

Thanks for your advice, but it does not show a tools tab when I right click. The drive is divided into various sections: Backup, Movies, Music, etc. All have properties, but none show Tools.

Maybe I'm missing something? Clicking the wrong place?

did youright click the drive, select properties from the context menu then in the properties window there is the tools tab

Not sure if it is possible on a NAS. You only see shares not the disk itself.

You may have to pull the drive out of the enclosure, plug it into your pc, then run checkdisk.

No Tools option was available on any of the "folders" (also called separate drives) within the Iomega external hard disk (network storage, not USB). Not that I could find, anyway.

Is there any third party software that might allow this?

Just a thought. Is your backup share set to have read/write permissions in the NAS?

Not sure if it's set that way. I'll check when I get back home.

I keep hoping there's someway I can get to the "top" of the drive, where there might be a Tools option. But I haven't found it yet. May be me; may be the drive. I'll keep looking.

The thing is. All that windows sees are shares which are more like folders. It never sees the root of the drive. If there was a way to run a chkdsk it would have to be from within the NAS itself. I have had a look in my Iomega NAS management console and there is nothing like it.
