Hi Folks,

Seemingly out of the blue I now have this popup appearing at logon. A quick search suggested to disable relevant notifications in the Action Centre and to disable WindowsDefender in services.msc. Unfortunately neither of these fixes worked...

Any help please

When you installed MSE it should of turned off Windows 7 Defender.

Go to Start Orb and type in Defender. Tick on Defender and make sure it is turned off.

Don't use any trick programs to remove Defender. You will just make a mess of your system.

The frustrating part of this was it occurred just after a clean install with MSE being one of the first updates and in the process of downloading the others. Finished the update process without a hitch and then lost the popup notification and found Windows Defender itself starting at logon instead
There was no sign of Windows Defender listed in the start-boot list and nothing else I tried, e.g. turned off or set to disable in settings or uninstalling MSE/re-installing worked.

By then the OCD in me had already decided to burn this install so by uninstalling Defender using the link I had nothing to lose. It seemed to work quite well TBH... a search for Defender showed 0 results and the system seemed fine for the short space of time that it lived :)

I then wasted 24hrs of my life on trying out several KDE (Linux) distributions with Plasma 5... mmm

All I needed was a KDE base installed for a boutique D/E (CSS written) to run over the top of it, only I couldn't find a distro stable enough. Back on Win 7 again after another clean install and only an automatic logon issue to sort out...

Thank you though for your input and I agree with you on the subject of 3rd party fixes.
