How to Uninstall Windows 7 go back to XP

I installed 7 on top of xp and now my comp needs updated video and ram to work correctly. So I want to uninstall it and have seached net and the two way that I have found do not work. Way 1 is go through command prompts and windows.old file and I printed out directions and followed them exactly and it did not work. Way 2 was to use a windows disk and take windows off partition but that did not work. Please can anyone help here, I dont have money to upgrade my comp. for it to work correctly. The message windows are huge and cant see bottom of them and resolution is maxed out and cant adjust on monitor settings and 1Gb of ram not enought to do anything. Thank you in advance. Ray24

Do you have an XP installation disk or an XP recovery partition on your disk?

1 gb RAM is indeed enough to run Windows 7 32 bit. If you have a screen resolution problem then try a few things first before panicking and retreating to an almost-XPired OS:

Go to the Support Downloads website for your computer model or video card, download and install the Windows 7 or if necessary Vista/XP driver for your graphics chip or video card. You may need to run the .exe file for a Vista/XP driver in Vista/XP SP2 compatibility mode by righclicking .exe for the Compatibility tab.

If the .exe for the various drivers you try only unzips the drivers, then go to Device Manager>Display Driver>Update Driver>Browse in the drivers folder until it picks up the driver.

Make sure you try each Screen Resolution for any drivers which will work until you find one that works. Then if necessary change the DPI to increase font size if sharper resolution results in type which is too small. I typically run highest resolution to get sharpest images, but increase DPI to 117-125% to make it look right, then run Internet Explorer at 125% zoom for perfect sizings.

As Greg stated, Win 7 runs on only 1 GB.

Ram for your computer is very economical. You might want to consider adding more ram, at least to 2 GB.

I do strongly recommend sticking with Win 7.

1gb of ram is fine. i installed 7 on my old secondary pc with a p4 2.4ghz and 512mb ram and windows 7 runs better then xp. it uses the ram very wisely. i can open multiple programs with no problem as i use a program it will take away ram from the programs im not using and allocate it as needed

On your over-magnified screen with WIN 7

Just right click on screen/desktop
Goto "Screen resolution"
move the slider to 1024x768 or 1200x1024
then use your keyboard "tab" key to land on the ok/accept button (if it's hidden off bottom of screen)

You might have to try it a few times eg two 'tab' presses, enter/three 'tab' presses then press 'enter' to see if it fixes screen size or asks if you want to keep new screen size!

Do a clean install from newly formatted hard drive!

You have one of Dell's knock down, cheapo, made to measure boards and the rip-off cheapskates didn't fit any AGP socket on your M/board.

You would have to find a modern PCi (NOT PCI-E(express) card

his machine uses old style ddr memory (quite pricey if bought new since it is outdated, $35+ for 1GB) and the dell site says Up To 1GB of memory, so it may be maxed out at 1GB.

Memory: Up to 1GB (dual channel) Shared1 DDR SDRAM at 400MHz for superior performance (Note: 400MHz memory performs at 333 MHz with 533 FSB processors).

Did you check Optional Windows Updates to see if it delivers newer drivers than the Win7 installer provides?

You may need to use XP drivers, in which case I would try them both with and without running the .exe in XP SP2 compatibility mode. Rightclick .exe>Properties>Compatibility Mode.
