Hello,
My laptop came with Windows 7 x64. I need to update it to Service Pack 1. I am using dial-up connection so it's not fast enough to download the update and it may take a week or so! But, I have a "Windows 7 Pro SP1 Disk". Can I use this DVD to update the already installed Windows 7 on my laptop? Or I need to install a fresh Windows and therefore download all the drivers and install them again? Thanks.

You should really apply the service pack since I don't think you can use that disk. You might be able to get the service pack on disk if you check with MS.

As to fresh install, I had problems applying SP1 when it first came out, so I contacted MS (who had such an option back then) and they sent me a new DVD with SP1 on it -- but they also sent me a new serial number. So, it's possible that if you do a clean install using the SP1 disk your current serial number may not work for activation -- you might need one for SP1.

You have two choices -
1) see if you can order a DVD from MS with the SP1 update
2) see if you can use a cable/DSL connection to download the standalone update - Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center
