There would be no point running x64 with those specs, to take advantage you would need at least 4GIG of RAM or more.

That's what I was thinking. Crap, I only have the 64 bit install disc and they've discontinued downloading >.>

You can still run it, but it would perform better if the RAM was available, I say just go for it or alternatively you could try looking for the 32Bit build on a torrent site.

I have no problem getting by with my 2 gigs of Ram . The most i have seen it use is around 1250mb, while i was transcoding video files .

Am i missing something? I don't have as many processes running as some i have seen here . I presently have 43 .

I have 4Gigs of RAM and usually have about 70 processes running and use about 1.7Gigs of RAM, but the rest gets cached leaving virtually nothing free.

I've tried both 32 and 64 bit, and I have a ThinkPad T61p with 2 gigs.
x64 I find it rather sluggish, at least on my system.

Luckily I ordered another 2 gig stick so hopefully it should give me a needed boost.

I have 8GB, and I'll be damned if I've ever seen the actual usage get close to 4GB, let alone 8. It's usually b/w 1800 and 2600 mb.

BTW, I have twice as many processor cores as you, and mine isn't fast enough either. :p ;)

Just so you know you don't need over 4GB of memory to take advantage of a 64 bit OS it is just a great benefit that you can (as the OS has access to more memory addresses so can use more memory). the 64 bit version is just optimized to run on a 64 bit processor so it should work slightly faster than the 32 bit OS on the same system. Of course the more memory the better so get some more when and how you can.

That isn't completely true, even at 3GB of ram, the 32bit OS out performs the 64bit almost every single time. You NEED 4GB of ram for the 64bit to be FASTER than the 32bit would be.

That is interesting. Even with the bigger "bandwidth", lack of a better term, using 64 bit, doesn't make it quicker?
