Solved Would Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius run on this computer?

I don't actually have this computer yet, but I am planning to build it and install Ultimate 64-bit using an OEM. Before I do, I want to make sure than I'm not setting myself up for failure. I have a game called Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, made in 2001 for the PC. I was able to play it on my Windows XP computer years ago, but those days are over, and my gaming PC uses Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. After trying everything on my own and receiving answers from others online, I've since given up on trying to run the game successfully on my computer.

These are the minimum system requirements of the game:

• Windows 95/98/ME and 100% compatible computer system
• Pentium II 233 MHz processor
• 32 MB of RAM
• 4MB Video Card
• 8x CD-ROM
• 16 bit Sound Card
• DirectX 8
• 200 MB of Hard Drive Space

Would this game be able to run on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, or would I need a 32-bit version of Windows 7? The reason I think 64-bit would work is because Windows 7 has better backwards compatibility. Thoughts?

There is no definative answer. other than try to install it and run the program. I fear that it wont work. Nothing software-wise from the Windows 95/98/ME era has ever worked on my Windows 7 computer. So, I suspect, your game wont run on this OS, either. A 64-bit Operating System should run a 32-bit application, thats not the problem. Windows 7 has its own Compatability Modes, but these rarely work on Softwares older than XP, even if the facility exists to run the older applications.
You could try with Linux Wine, as an alternative. How to Install and Use Wine to Run Windows Applications on Linux | Linux.com | The source for Linux information . But, I checked the Compatability Database for Wine, and this game already has a "garbage" rating in the compatability Test Results: The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius

Thank you for your advice. The input of experienced Windows 7 users is why I signed up for this forum. If it's an issue of how old the intended OS is and not 64-bit versus 32-bit, then that reassures me, as I'm very set on using Ultimate for UEFI and Bitlocker, and the hardware I plan to use requires a 64-bit installation. The entry on the Wine Compatibility Database you found was for a different game that often gets confused with the one I mentioned. It's newer, which implies that my game likely wouldn't be very compatible either. However, there is no entry for it currently, so there's no way to know for certain. On YouTube I've seen videos from a couple channels that have gameplay of the game recently (2015-2019ish). They said that the game can't be played on Windows 8 and 10, which makes sense. They also said that the game runs fine on Windows 7, but it wasn't specified whether it was 32-bit or 64-bit. Thankfully, that doesn't matter. I suppose my only concern now is that I'm fairly certain that he used a .iso file of the game disc (which I don't condone). Would that function differently within the OS than using the actual disc?

Yes I could read the earlier reply.

The problem is downloading an ISO of a game may be considered piracy, as the downloader is making a copy of somebody else's copy.

If a .iso is identical to a disc in how it's treated by an OS, then I'll just use my disc, I wasn't tempted to use a .iso as a substitute. My concern was that the YouTuber could run the game because he used a .iso, but I guess that's not how it works, which is good, I'll use my disc then.


If 64-bit isn't an issue and I can use my disc to play the game, then my final concern is the hardware. I was told on a forum that I would need fairly old hardware to run the game, and that's not what my build will be.

As long as the hardware that I intend to use for my build is compatible with Windows 7, and the game can run on Windows 7, then is it an issue what hardware I end up using?

Hardware is only really an issue if the application programming writes directly to the hardware. Then you get things like no picture (black screen) or no sound, because your hardware is not compatible with the I/O used by the game. Some older software may also have problem with modern dual core and multicore processors. Some older software might have problem with the aspect ratio and resolution of widescreen monitors.
