Solved HP 2009m monitor wrong resolution

I don't know a lot about this monitor because I had it on my secondary computer till last week. I had to downsize from a 25" to get more desk space.

It's been working fine, but I lost my red color today. Tightened all the cables, red is back, but the resolution is wrong. Control Panel resol. goes only up to 1024x 768, whereas the native resol. should be 1600x900, which it was till this morning. The visible screen is 17.5" x 10." Yes, I know it's unusual.

Device Mger claims I'm using the
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
Generic PNP Monitor, generic driver from M$ 2006.
but as I just plugged it in this week, I don't know if that's correct.

Just D/L the driver from HP, restarted, Monitor in Control Panel is corrected, but the resol is still wrong.

Each of my 4 monitors has a diff physical size and resol., so I'm not sure how to test the graphics card

First link at msdn is about Timeouts, and is too complicated for me And the OP says the problem wasn't solved. Can you isolate the reg keys I have to change?

2nd link at myitforum is dead.

I did a System Restore to 2 weeks ago and resolved this. It means the problem isn't in the graphics card.
