HP LaserJet 4000 and Windows Home Premium

I have an HP LaserJet 4000 that was once a workhorse printer for me. Couple of years ago, changed my laptop (ran XP professional) and now run Windows 7 Home Premium. The Acer laptop does not have a serial/parallel port. I bought a USB adapter - but never got the printer to run.

Assistance, please - approrpiate driver and what do I need to do to welcome back this printer?
