alright so my laptop has been working fine for the most, occasionally the screen would go weird and turn white with horizontal lines moving and i planned on getting that checked out soon, but today it wouldn't start up. i turn the laptop on and it goes to the Starting Windows screen and the windows logo never shows up and then it tries to do a system repair and it can't solve the problem. i'm not really sure what else there is for me to do. there aren't any system restore points i can use and i can a check disk that did nothing. i wanted to try turning it back to factory settings and backing up my files but when i tried to do the file back up and it was creating the back up files i got an error that says "HP Recovery Manager failed. Error code = FFFFFF0C." all i really want is some music and pictures off of it. i'm not sure what i should do. please help

The screen problems may be related to your entire system crashing. Is your laptop still under warranty? If so, you need to get it replaced. If you want music and pictures off the drive, I would take the drive out of the laptop and slave it into another computer, then just copy what you need off the drive.

You have at least a one year warranty. You need to contact HP and get it fixed.

It's very easy to remove the drive - I'm sure you can google and find the manual for your laptop, which will explain how to do it. It's basically removing a few screws from the underside of your laptop where the hard drive is, taking it out, and putting it into another computer. It's even easier if you get a 2.5 in USB hard drive enclosure - just pop it in there and connect it to another computer via USB. They are very cheap. Here's one on newegg.

Newegg.com - Vantec NexStar TX 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive/SSD Enclosure - Model NST-210S2-BK
