Solved HP printer, network problem & Remote Desktop Connection

Hello, I have a network problem with my HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3525. The printer uses the WI-FI router to work. USB is out of the question since I lost the cable a long time ago and other USB slots are occupied.

The problem is, I changed my ISP about a week ago and the printer stopped working. My guess is that it doesn't work because the IP Address changed and now I have to manually configure it, which I cannot figure out. I tried and had no luck.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get it to work?

Another question. I share my home network with a few persons. Yesterday I noticed it was possible for them and me to initiate the Remote Desktop Connection and wanted to ask you if it is possible to completely disable that option. Just to be completely sure.

Hi:

A couple of things come to mind...

First, if you are on a network, then the other users on that network will be able to access the printer, too. If you want to limit access to that printer only to your computer, then it would be preferable to connect it to your computer "locally" via USB.
You could then disable the printer's wifi. Doing so would not 100% prevent the others from using the printer if they have access to your router, but it would be much harder for them to devise the workaround.

USB cables are cheap and readily available in office and computer and big-box stores and online. You will most likely need the special USB A-B "printer" cable -- it has a standard, flat USB connector at one end and a square USB connector at the other end, which connects to the printer.
(I am basing this advice on many years of HP printers, but not on your specific model.)

Yes, you will probably need to go into the setup menu for the printer and reconfigure the wifi, if you are going to stick with that connection method (rather than USB). It's usually pretty straightforward.

P.S. Yes, you absolutely ought to go into your system & router and disable remote connection. It's a giant security hole. Make sure you have a very strong passphrase for your SSID.

I kept trying but without any luck, so I had to improvise. I threw my USB mouse away and bought the PS/2 one. That way one of the USB slots was freed. I also bought the USB cable to connect the printer to my computer. And so I got it working.
