I have an EP45-UD3P Gigabyte mobo. I came across something called HPET. It says to set it to 32 bit or 64 bit for Vista. I assume it's the same for Windows 7.

Does anyone know for sure? I enabled 64 bit and started installing Windows 7 but it seems like there are long delays in the install process.

Are we supposed to use this feature? Thanks.

Also, how do I make the startup options stay up for longer that like 2-3 seconds? I can't find this option?

I saw this feature aswell in my p35-dsl3 model, I've had it on for some while now but I'm still unsure of what it does. Clarification on this would help me out aswell.

Well, with the HPET set to 64 bit, Windows 7 seems to be working at the moment.

Also to get a look at the options at starup....it is the "delay time for HDD" option in advanced options.

I finally found something on HPET. Here it is if anyone wants the short read.

Such a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg time ago, but just tinkering with a Gigabyte GA-P35 motherboard and came across the HPET setting, in the event someone is still googling out there, as this thread appeared right at the top of Google search on "HPET mode"

This is what the manual says:

Allows you to select the HPET mode for your Windows.
Select 32-bit mode when you install Windows 32-bit or 64-bit mode when you install Windows 64-bit.
This was the pre-Windows 7 days but the settings may still apply.
