HyperTransport (AMD Phenom II X6 1075T) causing BSODs

Recently purchased a new computer. I was having issues with installing Windows 7 and learned that HyperTransport is sometimes the cause of the issue and by turning it from "Auto" in the BIOS settings to "X1" can resolve the issue, and for me it did.

After installing Windows 7 and waiting to see if there were any other errors I went back to turn HyperTransport back to "Auto" I'm above computer savvy, but not far when it comes to hardware, I'm more of a software kind of guy. After doing so I was receiving consistent BSOD's. And after turning HyberTransport back to "X1" they went away narrowing it down to this being my issue.

I didn't know if updating my BIOS would help the issue so I decided to ask around first.

Computer Specs:

AMD Phenom II X6 1075T with HyperTransport
Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3
8Gig of Corsair Dominator
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1Gig

I have no idea about the power that any of these pieces should be receiving, nor if that would even be the cause of the problem. Also, windows freezes along with the BSODs saying that a video driver went out but was recovered, I just installed the latest video drivers. At the time of posting this the computer has been running for 2hours without HyperTransport set to "Auto"

Update your BIOS, definitely. HyperTransport should not be causing you problems.

If it helps as a reference, look at my specs in my signature. That's all running on a 650W power supply.

When Windows says a video driver has crashed it typically means this (I've dealt with it too many times to actually admit, sadly):

Windows: Graphics card, please respond. We need to display some stuff.
Graphics Card: Ok. I'm here. Let's do work.
Windows: Graphics card, please respond. We need to display some stuff.

That's the story I like to tell.

Your PSU may indeed be underpowered or faulty. From my calculations I estimate 600 watts to be a good starting point to be on the safe side. It's better to have more than you need at the time than not enough.

Thanks for the fast response! Currently running with a 700w XtremeGear powersupply, I'll update the BIOS and post back here if I have anymore problems or if it fixes it! Thanks again!

Checked my BIOS Version and I'm running the most recent version. They have a newer BETA version up, but I figured best to steer clear. I've updated my USB 3.0, SATA RAID, Audio, LAN, and Chipset drivers. We'll see how this goes.

Update: First startup lead to a BSOD.

After enabling HyperTransport again computer rebooted roughtly three minutes after logging into Windows. Computer rebooted after running Prime95 to test stability. Rebooted with Optimized settings in BIOS. Shortly after running CoreTemp display drivers failed. CoreTemp shows all six cores running at ~39C. Display drivers continue to fail, but were able to be restarted. Went back to having HyperTransport set to X1, CoreTemp showed 38C and when running Prime95 it cause a BSOD.

I'm completely lost as to what I need to do to fix this issue. Please help!

Almost sounds like you may have a motherboard issue. If your graphics drivers weren't acting up like they are, I'd say processor, but your motherboard may be the culprit on this one. If it's new enough to replace via the manufacturer, I would.

I replaced the PSU which fixed all of the BSODs and random reboots. But am now getting a "Display drivers have stopped responding, but was recovered" errors from my ATI Raedon 5770 HD 1GB card. I've read a lot of of people are having these problems with no clear answer. I tried the new graphics care in my old computer to see if I would get the same errors and it didn't the card ran flawlessly. Internet pages are also not loading properly (text, no graphics) and since it's an onboard ethernet card, this leads me to believe the mobo is at fault. Best to get a new mobo? I've only had the PC built for two days now, the mobo isn't even a week old.

You shouldn't be having these problems 2 days into its life. Can you download larger files alright or do you have problems with that?

If it's only 2 days old and are willing to RMA it, I would.

I can download files, it's just when viewing them they tend to screw up, the largest that I've downloaded so far was ~130MB (drivers). I'm willing to RMA it and probably will, going to call tech support for my mobo tomorrow, if they can't solve it, I'll RMA.

On a side note, it couldn't be windows 7, could it?

Now that i think about it, you never posted any dumps. Can you do so, just to make the real BSOD team here happy? If they see it, they are more likely to come running. I'm limited on my BSOD expertise.
