 I have a Toshiba Satellite L555D notebook with Realtek Audio Sound software and three different times my speakers have picked up sounds being made by someone else mot in my house!

 I can hear them flip papers, type, sigh, dial a phone, and type...

:sarc: I have always been a little paranoid about pc's like covering my web cam with black tape ...now I am really freaked out.

 Can Anyone tell me what made that happen....is it someone living near my house ....can anyone hear me that good at their house? I rarely use my microphone and always keep it disabled in the sound properties... do you think that is enough to stop it from sending my sounds to another person?

If any can tell me how this happened I would really appreciate it~! :D

Some odd things can happen when using audio and other similar equipment. Various configurations can pick up radio frequency transmissions from other sources, taxis, baby-phones, cell-phones, and a lot of other things. This is usually harmless, although it can be annoying. It is quite common.

There have been cases of people picking up video from their neighbour's houses on their TV sets.

The only really sensible way to check what is happening there is to have a technician come along and scan for various frequencies which may be causing the problem. Sometimes whoever polices/controls your local radio frequencies will do something about it if you inform them of the problem.

There is no diagnostic you can use from Windows to check this.

Maybe you are picking up sounds from the future being transmitted via a tachyon pulse and your machine is picking it up.
There may be an important message coming.

Tachyons, ( which are hypothetical particles in any case), can not slow down to subluminal velocities and could not be picked up by any audio equipment.

I never could figure it out...

It has happened to me about 5 times since I posted. It makes me really paranoid! I put black electrical tape over my camera and turned the volume down and disabled my mic ... I don't know if that stops people from hearing me...buy it makes me feel better!

Hi karee810, welcome to 7F :)
And a hi to you also cindyv11!

It can be very unsettling to have that happen to you, I know, it has happened to me also.

Whether wired or wireless it could help if you change the way the wires are routed in the rear of your computer desk or change the location of your wireless transmitter/receiver, shielded wires may also help.

Do either of you recall seeing the FCC interference warnings on any of the electrical appliances that you may have purchased?
I would check them especially if you have made any recent purchases.

As our lives become filled with technology, the likelihood of electronic interference increases. Every lamp dimmer, garage door opener or other new technical “toy” contributes to the electrical noise around us. Many of these devices also “listen” to that growing noise and may react unpredictably to their electronic neighbors, including Amateur Radio transmitters.
Source: Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)

Direct links from the link I posted earlier in post #3 in this thread:
How this plays into your issue is twofold, one the PC that is sending out these signals is causing interferences, generally other electronic devices can shunt out unwanted signals so the second side of this is your speakers are picking up the unwanted signals so perhaps the shielding in your speakers is suspect.

Hmm...there are several people on this forum that have heard this. All of them describe roughly the same sounds; shuffling papers, loud or noticeable breathing, electronic sounds (alarm, piano/keyboard, phone dialing), clicking keyboard.

I'm wondering if it's a sound file that has somehow been "implanted" in these peoples' computers.

Has anyone noticed the sounds repeating?

Could it be some new type of malware that isn't recognized yet by the various anti-malware apps?

Kent

I can hear someone on my computer speaker

I have been listening to the same sounds for some time now. It is footsteps, heavy breathing, guitar, phone tones, etc...

The sounds repeat. I tried switching users and the sounds are still there.....

I suspect that someone at the factory where the software was developed put a little "funny thing" into the computer software where it is not easily detected. I don't see it as affecting the functionality of the computer but it did scare the begeebies out of my wife.

I am using Windows 7 on a Dell computer
