I cannot install printers anymore

I'm using windows 7 home premium and a while ago I was using printers, pdf printers, etc. without any problem.

But for a few months now I can no longer use or even install them.
I have a HP printer (plugged in directly with USB) and when I download the newest version of the installer it skips most steps and just says it's finished without doing anything.

When I try to install any pdf printer I only get errors (I tried 3 different ones).

How can I fix this?

Try:
- Create a manual System Restore point - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html
- Remove the printer, and uninstall the driver/software
- Restart PC
- Run DriveCleanup as admin (Drive Tools for Windows)
- Restart PC
- Run CCleaner and scan for files and registry
- Restart and try re-installing

Got it installed again and also installed a pdf printer.

BUT!
Everything gone again. Everything uninstalled and I cannot re-install it again.
It's neither a virus nor malware, I just checked my system.

How can this be?
