I cant install this update please help

i downloaded the x64 update for my windows 64 bit system.. it says some of the updates were not installed, the following updates were not installed, 2020-01 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4534310).
no error message what so ever

Go to Update History, and look at (double-click on it) the most recent failed install - what is the error code given?

it says error code 8007002.
also, theres now 3 updates available.
i have tried using avanced system repair to fix windows update, but it totally screwed up my pc
i must warn anyone against that program

i was able to install that one update, it was an update for windows defender apparently
but it still fails to install 2020-01 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4534310)
as well as 2020-01 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4539601)

theres another update i found
KB4539602 Stretched wallpaper displayed as black fix Windows 7 Feb. 7
it seems like theres more than just two updates left
perhaps the reason why i cant install them is because previous updates are missing?
i have checked to see if theres any hidden updates, but theres not
is there a complete catalog of updates somewhere?

(KB4474419) & (KB4490628) are necessary prerequisites for any further update via M$ Win update. If not installed, updates will fail. Restart is necessary after installation. The install KB4539602

To the best of my knowledge, there is no listing of every Windows Update for Windows 7. And I've searched extensively on the net.

Many are superseded by other updates and not necessary as a result.


If you want to receive future security patches on your Windows 7 machines, you really need to install KB4474419, KB4490628, and KB4484071 before you hit the update button.
All of these updates support SHA-2 and they have been released to the users in March 2019 Patch Tuesday updates.

Who should install KB4474419, KB4490628, and KB4484071?

The roll out is targeting the users of Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and encourages them to install the three updates.

right now i have some problems with my windows key
this is probably because i have used aomei backupper to restore my laptop
if windows is being restored to a computer with different hardware, the key is sometimes blocked
i have tried just about everything to activate the key, including calling microsoft, but nothing works
so i probably wont be able to finish updating windows before this is solved
im going to make another thread about this

i now have 226 updates installed
so theres definitely more than just two updates left
which i wish there was not, since i already have more than 200 updates installed
i guess you can still install some updates, even if your cd key is not activated
i think the program was previously suggested, but i didnt know that you had to go through this much trouble just to update windows

You an install all Security updates on any PC, activated/unactivated, or non-genuine.
Activated machines and machines within the activation grace period, you can install all updates.

What you can't install is new features on non-genuine machines.

That number is about right. Unless someone has an identical machine to yours, the numbers are irrelevant.
Each motherboard and CPU will require different drivers and updates.

i guess the only thing to do is to continue updating until windows says its fully updated.
but i hope this is going to end soon.
im at KB4534310 right now, which still wont be installed.

What's the exact error message given, if you double-click on the latest failure message un Update History?

It may be worth downloading the update from the Update Catalog - Microsoft Update Catalog
make sure you pick the right one to download - if it fails, post the error message.

(this is actually the last officially-released update for Win7 - so there's lots of time to get it right!)

i was able to install one more update, kb947821.
is there a complete catalog of updates somewhere?
perhaps theres some previous updates missing, which is why some of the latest updates are failing to be installed.
also, if i install the update you suggested from the catalog, it says the update wasnt installed, without giving any error message besides that.

The last update offered for Win 7 was in January 2020
If your system was not able to install that, you have a major problem.

kb947821 is a purely correctional 'update' designed to fix existing problems, not to upgrade/update the OS.
Please start a NEW thread!
Open an Elevated Command Prompt window
run the following command.
COPY C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log %userprofile%\desktop\CBS1.log
close the command prompt window
You should see a file CBS1.log on the desktop now - right-click on it and select Send to... then Compressed (zipped) Folder
This should create another new file called CBS1.zip. (you can delete the CBS1.log file now)
In Internet Explorer, go to Microsoft OneDrive - Access files anywhere. Create docs with free Office Online. - you can read the help files there (things have changed a lot since I registered!)
It's free, and easy to use.
upload the CBS1.zip file to your Public folder, and copy the content of the address bar (highlight it and right-click - select Copy)
and paste that to your response. -
