The HP may have been easy, that Acer won't be. I found the service manual for it here (19 MB PDF, free download),

Acer Aspire 5738G Notebook Service Manual

there is a lot moe than just 3 screws to get to the heatsink and fan.

I would blow it out with compressed air thru the vents. Taking a laptop apart is not obvious.

A question?
When you go looking for a laptop how are you going to determine how to take
it apart easily?

Rich

PS: I would not recommend taking a set of tools to the local computer shop and asking if you can take their laptops apart.

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
To me this is the Achilles heel of almost all laptops. Heat the absolute killer of all things electronics. Computers are small air cleaners, dusty air goes in and clings to charged surfaces only to ball up and drift closer to the fan. Compressed air does some good but the day will come when the heat will cook the cute little thing. It's like spinners those only two types, drives that have stopped and those about to.

lol, i was not really about that, u see, there is PDF files like that one, there is all about how to repair laptop, how to change parts. So i would just search for instructions about that laptop repairing before buying ;D But yah, this time, i will just buy compressed air, and maybe a cooling pad. But if after long time what will not help, i rather will melt a hole from other side of laptop to get to cooler lol, thats just in critical way xD still easyer then put out all parts.

I mean, theoretically, it would work. Compressed air isn't so great for cleaning out a laptop, unless you have access to the inside. A vacuum would suck the dust out. You don't want to push the dust further in for the sake of having a clean exhaust.

yah,. im thinking the same, i got idea, im gonna connect securely my vacuum cleaner to the went that goes hot weather out of laptop from it, and turn vacuum cleaner full power to suck air out of laptop at full power (1800W lol) and left like that like 10 minutes. that should maybe do the job i think. ofcourse i will turn laptop off and put battery out. i dont think that should damage laptop or anything :sarc:

I would still use compressed air as well, try the crevice tool at the exhaust and the air can with nozzle at the intake, do bursts of air to break up the dust. Turn keyboard upside down or on side and blast air but be careful as you can dislodge the key covers with too much air pressure on some lappies.

Hey guys, sorry for late reply, but the idea about sucking dusts with air using vacuum cleaner, worked! i connected securely my carpets vacuum cleaner with transparent vide sticky tape to laptops went and turned the cleaner at full power and left like that about 10 minutes. After that laptop case was cold cold... because of fast air sucking... But now, my laptop do not owerheats no more :D i can play NFS World and laptop stays on! hehe (used to shut down). so there, thats nice way how to fix it without opening case, or speding money on cooling pad, witch one also takes place if u travel.. =)

Thanx all for help and Product FRED for the idea :)
