I can't use custom sound events

Alright, so here's my problem:
I'm trying to select my own sounds in the sound event settings in windows seven, but when I test the sound, it doesn't play.
All of the default sounds can be used, and I haven't noticed any other sound problems, but it won't let me use my own sounds, even if they are in the .wav format. I've even tried putting them into the media folder and it didn't help.

I think I have an HD realtek soundcard in a Dell Vostro, if that helps.

Well, I just tried it after unblocking them and still seem to have the same problem.

Do the .wav files play when you double click on them?

Are you having an issue with playing any other .wav files?

Could you upload one of the .wav files that you cannot get to play? I'll be happy to test it on my system to see if it works on it.

You might be using MP3-encoded .WAV files. These will not work - but do follow Brink's advice first.

Yes, the wav files play if I click them.

I guess I could go find some other wav files to test, but I know for a fact they are not mp3 encoded.

edit 1:Oh wait... that's strange. hmm, this one I linked worked. maybe it was just the few files I initially had, or something change.

Nope, the "Seriously though, goodbye" wav played for me in WMP by just opening the file, but it would not play as a sound event for me either.

I guess it's something about those specific files.

If you want to find out for sure, maybe install a free sound editor such as Audacity and load the sound files with that.
Maybe it can even help you fix them by simply resaving them into new files.

I do think that it might be an incompatible sample rate/bit depth issue. If you load and resave the sounds as 44100Hz, 16-bit, mono or stereo .wav files they should work.
