Well, first of all I think this to be the most appropriate category for starting my thread.
I have bought one D-Link DSL-2750U router to use with my BSNL broadband service. This one was supposed to have a wireless connection to my Windows 7 (Home Premium 64 bit) laptop. But despite following the installation guide properly twice, the router was failed to be recognized by my laptop.
Is there any help out there?

While this may, or may not, solve your particular problem I have found that some routers and some PC's (laptops as well) don't play well together. I have resorted to making a direct connection using either 10BaseT, or 100BaseT, depending on your PC's capability, to see if it will work with the NIC and once it does I remove the connection and 9 times out of 10 the wireless connection can be made and will no longer be an issue. Try that and see if you have success.

The installation CD itself plays foul!

Did you install the proper driver?
I was trying to do so, but the wizard that starts after the installation CD was inserted, first told me about checklists; once I checked and found everything ok, I clicked next- thereafter it said "Modem could not be recognized.." type message. I tried with ethernet cable and wireless both, by the way. :(

@widestination, did you install a low-pass filter on the ADSL line to segregate the modem/router from the telephone? ( Just a routine query to make sure you have it in place)

Did you configure the modem for the BSNL connection? Read the manual carefully on setting up the modem.

This guide should enable you to configure your modem correctly How to configure D-Link DSL-2640U for DataOne?

(And yep, I assume that you have installed the correct LAN Driver for your motherboard, be it a desktop or laptop. Check it in Device Manager > Network adapters)

Maybe check the internets for your driver? looks like maybe your install CD went bad.

It shouldnt be trying to install a "modem" driver UNLESS you are using dial-up connection.

Dell usually uses a broadcom Ethernet, and wifi varies.

I've seen this happen when it see's the cable modem and the fix is pretty simply just fill in your area code then it will realize it's a cable connection.

I would also try the Ethernet cable directly to cable modem and see if that work, if it doesn't check to see if your nic is enabled in Control Panel and if it is use a different Ethernet Cable and try again, once you have this operational then connect the Cable Modem to the routs=er and see how this goes.

I'm a bit confused so please be patient with me. Is the problem your computer connecting to the router or router connecting to the modem? Your posts imply the former.

The following depends on some speculation. Sorry if any of it is stuff you already know. I have never had to do anything special to connect to a router. You should see a network connectiong icon in the tray notification area. From there you should be able to connect to the router as long as it is plugged in and on. Your broadband modem should be connected to the router with an ethernet cable. What I think the software on the disc is trying to do is configue your router to work with your modem. For this to work your computer would have to be connected to the router and the router connected to the modem. Also, with my DSL modem I had to change a setting to make it work with a router. I haven't seen this with any cable modems I've worked with, but it might be something you need to look into.

I just bought a DSL-2750u and it keeps cutting off the Net connection after an hour or so. The wireless link is working but no Net connection. Then after 15 minutes or so it connects up again only to drop out again after a few minutes. Even logging on to the Net takes a very long time. My older modem UT-300R works without a hitch all day long !
Setting up was an issue. I found that set up using a laptop with Win7 did not work as the computer could not find the modem. When I tried it on two other computers with WinXP there was no problem at all. They found the modem immediately. So installing from disc on a Win7 ( home 32bit) is not possible.
What is the reason for the Net dropping out so often ? I also find it appears to be slower than the UT-300R which is more than 7 years old. Wireless connect speed says 150Mbps.

It really sounds like you are using dated software/drivers you should go by the manufacterer's website and see if there are updates

The drivers are fine. V1.1 which is what the Net is also showing. It's not that it never works. It works for some time only and keeps hiccuping after a couple of hours or so.It does appear to run pretty hot ! Maybe I should put it in front of a fan and see if it works without a break. Due to the on/off timing of the unit , it looks like it could be heat. There is nothing out of the ordinary in its present location and it has plenty of air around it. However a forced draft will cool it down significantly. Maybe it was designed for much cooler ambient temperatures ?
