I have a Windows 7 activation code, what do I do now?

Hello. Our school gave each student a laptop. On the bottom of my laptop, there is a sticker that has an activation code for Windows 7, but the computer is actually running Windows XP Professional. What do I need to buy or download to get Windows 7 on my laptop? I don't think there's anything else to explain.

I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, but I guessed since this a Windows 7 forum, there are people with experience installing Windows 7.
