As well as the advice above I suggest that you consider SuperAntiSpyware.
There is a free version available.

You should not run Avast and MSE running together - that can lead to conflicts. Using Avast for scanning only is OK. And MSE shuts the Defender off because it uses the msmpeng.exe (which is the original Defender .exe).

Because you never use 2 security suites at the same time (golden rule). There could be serious conflicts. If you did not have them yet, you were lucky. Ask Corinne, she is the expert.

To begin with, in your initial post, you indicated that you are looking for an anti-spyware software. Both Avast and MSE are antivirus software programs. Presumably, you already have an antivirus software installed on your computer. If not, that should be your first step.

As to the reason it is not recommended to have two antivirus software programs actively monitoring your computer is that it could result in serious conflicts.

My personal choice for an anti-malware software program is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Another excellent choice is SUPERAntiSpyware.

It is generally recommended that having more than one anti-malware software installed and updated is acceptable, however, it is not recommended that you have more than one real-time protection active as that also can cause conflicts.

Thus, if you use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus software or a "security suite", I would suggest adding only one anti-malware software.

I do highly recommend WinPatrol as an excellent system monitor. See WinPatrol Features for additional information.

I no longer recommend SpywareBlaster & SpywareGuard on Windows Vista and Windows 7 based on Mike Burgess' recommendations. See SpywareBlaster and Windows Vista :: freedomlist.com.

honestly currently using avast, difender and MSE. I can tell you that I have not slowed down a lot of work computers. I know from experience that one should not put Norton and Kašperské .. it was chaos. else is bearable.
My recommendation is, avast and MSE ...

Mine too. using both together and works pretty well.
While Avast is using around 3 MB RAM, MSE is around 50 MB.

Welcome to the forum.

Avast or MSE anything in my suggestion after my usage. A bit inclined towards Avast (alone) now. Both are free.

NOD is rock solid, but its paid.
