I have contacted HP. They say they can't help with this.
I need to find out what capacitors fit my HP 2509b monitor. My monitor is flickering and I would like to replace the bad capacitors. I would like to know what possible capacitors are inside of the monitor and order them bad or not. They aren't expensive so if I buy some I don't need that is fine. I would like to have them on hand when I take the monitor apart so I can replace the bad ones at the same time. I would rather do it that way verses taking the monitor apart to find out what capacitors I need and then ordering. I have had no luck searching the web for this information. Please let me know what to order so I can repair my monitor before it goes out completely. Thank you, Marshall Moore

Your best bet would be to take the monitor apart and find/locate the bad capacitors and get the ID# off of it and look it up that way. I here Radio Shack has a good inventory of such items.

You are probably right. That way I can go ahead and fix it the same day. I didn't want to take it apart and have to order the capacitors and wait for them. Good sound advice. Thank you.

If they are regular electrolytic capacitors, the value will be right on the caps. IE: 10mf 10v (10 micro farads at 10 volts). These will be common, and likely available at RS unless they are some strange value. It they are another type of capacitor then they would likely only be identifiable by the location in a service manual, such as c910, cross referenced to a part number.

What makes you think it is capacitors? The common capacitor issue (see Capacitor Plague ) usually affects power supplies, and results in trouble turning the unit on. They certainly can have other effects. Is the video flickering only, or are the backlights flickering? Look in the back through the cooling slots and see if the lights are flickering.

Does that look like it?

Monitor is flickering

I know it is only a monitor issue. It is flickering. With the monitor disconnected from pc it still flickers. It will stable out after a few seconds. I was only wondering if someone would know how or if I could find out what capacitors are inside without opening it up first. Capacitors are fairly inexpensive so I wanted to buy all possible compatible capacitors without having to physically inspect them first. In a nutshell I didn't want to have to take the monitor apart spot which ones are bad and then order the replacements. If I already had all possible capacitors on hand I could just fix the monitor in an hour or two, thus keeping the down time to a minimum.

I know whats wrong with the monitor. I just was hoping someone may know how I could find this information with research rather than with inspection. Thank you

OK...I am a TV tech, but don't have access to any HP manuals (not sure who makes their stuff). You may not be able to physically see which caps are bad. But looks like you have that covered, so wish you luck ;)
