Okay i'll try that and i hope the x64 will boost my render time too.. im lucky enough that the deadline was extended til tuesday :p.. (today is saturday here.. it was supposed to be due 4pm this afternoon) and i didn't even get close to finishing my renders..

mr grim could you please explain to me what the "memory sharing issue" is about?
what are the cons on this issue

Yes you can use 32bit aps on a 64bit OS and what i meant by sharing issues (and this is only a theory) is because you have 6 Gigs of system RAM and it running it in triple channels the OS wants to use all of that, but because you also have 2 gigs of Video RAM as well, and maybe it's only being able to detect part of that and maybe that's why sometimes it only registers one of your cards. If you upgrade to x64 then the OS will have no problems because it will be able to use all of your system and Video RAM plus more.

The big question now is why did you install x86 in the first place when you have so much memory, was it just because you didn't know if your programs were going to work on x64?

no i was really planning on using 64bit but.. i used my old harddisk drive since i didnt have time to install my big apps before since the project deadline was closing in *to save time*.. too bad it just complicated things.. :(

so if i was to install my 64bit windows on another drive... could i run my apps from the drive which has 32bit windows installed ? or do i have to install the software and open my saved file of that said app ?

and i think your theory made it clear to me why my system is still "not that fast"...

OK glad that was clear for you I wasn't sure if I was making allot sense, as far as using the apps installed on your 32bit OS, with some it may be possible but most will require a fresh install, if space is a problem then you could always install them in the same directory from the 64bit OS and that way both OS's will use the same install but to save confusion it would probably be best to install them on separate partitions.

This will probably give you better idea why they are there.

The 8600 GT is one of the few cards that does not require the use of the SLI bridge because of the relatively low bandwidth the card uses. In a scenario where you have two high-powered cards, say two 8800 GTXs, the bridge becomes vital for optimum performance. When the bridge is removed, the GPUs are forced to communicate across the PCI-Express bus, and with low-bandwidth cards (such as yours) there is enough "spare" bandwidth so the GPUs can communicate and access the necessary data without over-saturating the PCI-E bus. Your support personnel were correct in their claim.
SLI Zone Forums > SLI without Bridge?

So from what I can gather, with it you would have optimum performance.

For a really detailed description have a read of this Scalable Link Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think for your rendering you would notice a massive improvement using the SLI bridge.

i see... but does my cards require it ? i still cant find where to place it though

It doesn't look like your cards have the gold fingers so maybe they aren't using much bandwidth and don't require it. Is there are reason why you chose 2 of those cards instead of a single GTX260 or something like that, it just seems they are a very strange model and obviously aren't giving you the rendering speeds you wanted.

maybe the rendering speeds would increase after installing 64bit windows on my desktop ?

I think with the extra RAM available it will be Noticeably better, maybe when you get cashed up again you might want to consider an upgrade and you can use them in your old Rig.
