We are the product. We're being sold to advertisers and the government. Ah, I see Lance got it too. Mozilla, whose products are open-source, and which used to exist for the benefit of its users, is doing the same
The reality is that our data is being collected from multiple sources. Use a grocery store "discount (heh!) card"? Buy stuff with a credit card? Do you walk the streets, drive, do business with anyone anywhere? Have a cell phone, use a computer?
It's all collected, and eventually (if not already), all of these personal profiles will be compiled to give a pretty complete picture of what we do, where we go, what we buy, preferences in all matters, what we drive, how we drive, what we believe, what we...
Well, it just goes on. It may sound paranoid to some, but who here believes that the government can resist using that data? We already seem to be moving toward a totalitarian society, and the personal data is the foundation upon which they build.
Yes, dramatic and rant-like. That doesn't make it untrue. What it is is the future. Those with foresight will do what they can to limit how much of their data is being collected.
Sorry to veer into that. Back to our regular programming.
