Solved I want to stick with W7 - 2020 workaround?

I forgot all about starting this thread so apologies for not getting back. I dont really like the idea of continuing with W7 without being able to update so reluctantly Ill probably downgrade to W10. ill wait until the end of July in case thee are any new developments. Thanks for all the feedback.

Why is update important. All you get is new bugs with the updates. I never update any of my running systems - since years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Really, what do you need updates for to run an operating system ?

Linux never gets updates, they just come out with newer versions.

You never have to update windows if you don`t want to.

If you read the description of every update that came out, 99% of them are not even needed.

I never install an update that I don`t want or need.

That's what it is. Who wants to go from a rock solid Windows 7 to a shaky Windows 10.

I wouldn`t call it shaky, it runs great for me on my Gateway whenever I use it.

But I only use it for browsing.

If the GUI was better, I`d be all over it, but that`s just me.

It`s just another OS by MS, not even close to the gem that 7 is.

You are one of the lucky ones. I have seen other reports. In my modest count it panned out about 50/50. I run my W10 in a virtual system where it works well. But virtual is another story.

Don't worry Windows7 will run fine after 2020 and without any update ...
I'm still using Xp without any issue ...

Hint : use a sw to create an image of Os, like i do , for example True image , so you can reinstall it if needed

Windows 10 is absolutely rock solid here, just as 8.1 was before it.

I understand that Windows 10 runs well on many system. And then there are quite a few people that report problems. I don't really see many people reporting problems wiith Windows 7. I guess it is good to have choices.

What we have to realize is that, human nature is a funny thing. If you have an issue, Real or Imagined, you complain and complain loudly, I know I do . For those who do not have an issue what's the point of saying anything, just get on with using it I suppose you could say "If it Ain't Broke why tell anyone". This gives an extremely biased view, far from the actual truth of things and will always tend to the Negative, whatever the product or service concerned

I think we`ve beat this dead horse enough already, the question was will Windows 7 still be safe after 2020, and I say of course it will, as long as you have a decent anti virus and malware program, and be smart (as you should be) you`ll be fine.

I think that`s because Windows 10 is new and people will be complaining about it for years to come.

I think saying they are having problems they don`t understand is a better way of saying that Windows 10 has problems, but they just don`t know how to correctly express themselves, so they just consider it a windows 10 problem.

I think 10 is fine, I just prefer 7 so much more.

I`m still baffled that so many people still come here with Windows 7 issues, it boggles my mind

But then again, 99% of these people are the cause of their own problems.

As far as I know they do not. A quick poll on TF showed an approval rating in excess of 95%, which is actually more than I would expect for a Microsoft OS at this stage of Development.

If you look for people with issues, (I do not class the things we are seeing as Bugs, a Bug would apply to the majority of users not a small minority, but that's my training coming through ), then you will find them.

This is true with every Microsoft, Apple and even Linux, (which is basically only used by enthusiasts).

I was a big user of the Professional branch of windows Operating Systems The NT line rather than the Consumer OS's (9x series) and was responsible for specifying a lot of systems for industry .

I spent a lot of time 15 years ago removing the "awful XP" from systems and installing Windows 2000 before they could be used in industry, (this was a professional decision and not due to it's UI by Disney), It took until SP3 to get to a usable OS, but by then it was so behind the times that I was glad to see Vista

There seems a lot of people against Windows 10 Here on SF, this is due, to a great extent, to the simple fact is that the majority of senior users are now using Windows 10 and are posting on TF, and those that are left are those who have decided they are not able, or willing, or ready to move, this produces a bias to the views posted

I and the other members of the management visit all the sites and as we work a lot behind the scenes we see the sites as a whole which is different view from that from the front end of any one forum

The issue in 2020 will be the same as I am currently experiencing with XP.

It wont matter how much you wish to keep the old you will be forced to update just like I am as web browsers stop supporting the old operating systems along with AV

you will find over time things stop working and you will have to change no matter how deep you dig in.

I didnt move from 98 till I had to and I am still hanging on to XP until I can work out how to make 7 do as I want.

I am hating the new learning curve I am being forced to accept.

With luck the security issues will have been found and work arounds found before you have to upgrade to 10, regardless you will be forced to sooner or later

I totally agree with you, and those that love and use 10 should use TenForums and those who love and use 7 should stay here, it`s only natural that some people are partial to 7 and want to defend it, at the same time a windows 10 user should never come here and bash any of us or 7, the respect should go both ways.
