Hi 7forum, sorry if this has been posted before, i searched but couldnt find anything similar...

I have 2 IDE HDD's, 1 system drive and the other in 2 partitions for backup.
The problem i have is they are not constantly active, il go into a directory and the HDD will make a "vvvvt - click" sound and then everything in the explorer window will appear.

How can i stop this, i have looked through the options in control panel, but coming straight from xp, missing vista out, its all a bit alien to me, never had this issue with xp.

Also, is it healthier for the disc's to keep this setting? I make music, and im sure this is interfering with reading samples from disc while writing a track.

Any help would be appreciated, i have more questions about other bits and bobs too.

Thanks, Baz. :)

Meh, does sound like the hard disks going into low power/sleep mode.

Control panel>Hardware and sound>Power Options>"Change plan settings"> Change advanced power settings>Hard disk/set to 9000 minutes, or 0, I guess either will be good enough. (Thus they will never really sleep again..)

Well if thats what you wanted to get to anyways.

Yeah, it is good for the hard disks to shut down every once in a while, keeping them constantly running will basically just reduce the life of them. But that won't really matter if you only use your computer for 4-8 hours, its those 12 day stretches constantly running. that cause hard disk failures.
