Solved IE 10 and Chrome 31 - How to allow local Javascript

I am trying to test a website that is on my PC.
Firefox (any recent version) and Opera 12 can run the site correctly.

Internet Explorer 10 will not run the necessary Javascript file.

I clicked on the "Allow Blocked Content" button on the pop-up.
I have enabled the scripting options in: Internet Options > Security > Security Settings

I've always found that the IE Security Settings are incomprehensible and therefore impossible to set.

Which Zone do I need to disable/edit, so that I can check if the JavaScript actually runs on IE?
What settings do I need alter?

Chrome 31 (and Opera 18) will not run the necessary Javascript file.

Chrome is set to "Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)".
What settings do I need alter (there don't appear to be any)?

I made the mistake of assuming that JavaScript was based on a standard (i.e. it is interpreted the same by all browsers).

Chrome 31, Internet Explorer 10 and Opera 18 don't understand one of the commands in the script I was using (unlike Firefox 25 and Opera 12).
I managed to edit the script so that all of my browsers can run it.
