I've been getting the 9C59 error for a while with the Windows automatic updater. I've attempted a manual update of IE 10, but had the same error. Not sure where to go from here.

I've attached the CBS file.

Thanks.

Dennis

CheckSUR found and fixed a large number of errors - but there are still a couple of errors remaining, which it may be able to fix if you run the tool a second time. Please post (just) the new CheckSUR.log file afterwards.

There are a couple of errors in the CBS.log which may relate to the errors outstanding in the CheckSUR - so we need to get those fixed first, and only then see if it's affected the SFC/CBS results.

Thanks NoelDP. I did not look at the CheckSUR file the first time. I ran the SURT update until the errors in the CheckSUR.log file did not change. I only had to do this twice.

Ran the Window update and still had the same error as before. See the image files in the CBS.zip file.

Thanks!!

Dennis

The second link is purely a sales pitch for a bogus registry 'cleaner' as far as I can tell - ignore it.

The first link may have some good content - but I don't believe it's appropriate for your particular circumstance, since the errors here are in the registry, rather than file system, and I don't believe that simply uninstalling and reinstalling the driver will fix this issue.

I remember when ie10 was first released some time back,
I can't remember the error it might of been the same, which was from windows update,
I believe I basically reset ie9 and repeated the download which failed again, lol
Ran these articles,
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/
Mr. Fixit not sure if this one was available at that time,
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/windows-update-issues/en-us
But After reset again and opening ie9 I of course was directed to msn and got a popup message from msn to download ie10/ which I did and it went without a hitch.
Brink has some alternative install options listed here if anyone missed the tutorial,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/282216-internet-explorer-10-install-uninstall-windows-7-a.html
Create a new administrator account,
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/Create-a-user-account
If the issue does not occur in new user account then refer the following link to fix the corrupted user account.

I had a similar error while trying to install IE10. If this issue still isn't fixed, simply run the command below on cmd.exe (with elevated priv of course!) it should identify the corrupted installer file for IE 10. It will clean the installer and enable you to proceed with you windows updates as normal.

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

PS: If it's IE 9 it failed on, simply replace the 10 with 9 and you're good to go.

Cheers

IE 10 - Update failed

I ran the following in the command prompt as administrator in safe mode:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

I ran it for IE10, but I received an ERROR code saying
blah blah blah... Files of type Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum, do not exist.

I then ran it for IE9 and it processed the Windows Internet Explorer Packages with the exception of the following (you can see attached image for the command dialog):

31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~en-US~9.4.8112.16421
31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~9.4.8112.16421

VistaPlus-Update~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~9.4.8112.16421

When these files where run the Error Message came up "Access Denied".

I ran it in safe mode, since it would not run in normal Windows Mode. This may be due to the fact I have IE9 turned off. I have turned off IE on my computer since I'm tired of trying to update IE10 and now IE11. I no longer us IE.

FYI: I've been having issues with a virus that hijacked my google chrome and firefox web browser (isearch...). Is it possible that the virus is stopping the update? Based on my research isearch.avg.com was installed on my computer some time ago.

Sorry about taking so long to reply, but I have not made much progress. All the suggested fixes have not been working. I may just reformat the disk and reload all the software, especially since I found a virus on the computer.

Thanks.

Dennis S.

I have a nasty feeling that what you've done here is to totally trash the winsxs folder.
I also suspect that you may be making a rod for your own back by having a username beginning 'admin' - unless they've managed to fix them all, there were a number of bugs (in earlier versions of Windows) which meant that this effectively became the Administrator account (somehow - don't ask me how!) Certainly, it's not 'good practice' (whatever that means).

That does not sound good. Perhaps it makes sense to rebuild the computer.

I had a reputable IT person build the computer, so I assumed it was OK to have the administrator as 'admin'.

Regards.
