IE 11 Update Won't Install Error Code 9C59

Sorry Noel, i am trying to say i have not had any crashes. I ran the process with no crashes exactly has outlined. Reboot, checksur, reboot, checksur etc..

If I want a crash I force the laptop to sleep with F1 and then awaking with any key on keyboard.

Since I wanted IE11 to install i did not do this. I used windows to put it asleep and would awake with power button avoiding all crashes.

Hope this helps.

i went into folder windows/servicing/packages and there are packages from IE 6 assuming first number is version. There are also quite a few 10s. All versions have Oct 18/2010 as date.

So some digging.

I rebooted and ran checksur. (No crashes for clarity.) After Checksur had run and repaired files the same 5 errors I went to the Windows/servicing/packages directory. Indeed the five file it said it had created, all for version 9, language, en, fr, pt, cn and TW, were created. They five files all had the extension .mum. The interesting thing I noticed is that these are the only files that don't have a corresponding Security Cat file, with an extension of .cat. Every other .mum file has a corresponding .cat file or vice versa, every .cat has a .mum. I checked the entire file.

Could this be something of concern. Are the original cab files with these language packs corrupt. Why would it be bring in IE 9 files to update ie10 to ie11?

On an aside how can I remove languages? (PT Portuguese, CN Chinese, TW Tawain and FR French) (This is not my laptop, I'm helping someone.)

According to this link..

Advanced guidelines for diagnosing and fixing servicing corruption

There must be a .cat for every .mum. Checksur is not creating these files correctly. It only creates .mum files according to CheckSur log. The same five . mum files in all my logs.

Noel, is there any way you could help me by creating the .cat and .mum files that I could copy into the directory. Alternatively do you have a procedure that someone with less experience could follow to create.

Thank you sir.

Noel, hopefully last thread for night.

Using the link I posted above I created my own files. I download the appropriate Language Packs for IE9. I then expand the msu. This produced a cab. I then expanded it and for each language created a mum and cat file. I copied all 10 files to a usb stick. (one cat and one mum for each language.)

Before I copy these to windows\servicing\packages is this the right process or am I about to trash this copy of Win 7.

My plan was to copy files, run checksur and expect no errors, fixed or otherwise. Then IE11 update.

Please comment. Thank you.

The files you created are exactly the ones that I uploaded (or should be! if not then either you or I are doing something wrong).

Don't forget you don't have much in the way of permissions in the \servicing\Packages folder - by default nothing has write access except the TrustedInstaller account/service.

It's worth a try, at least.

Thanks Noel. Unfortunately I had to return laptop to customer before I could try the files I created. My client wanted their laptop and is now using Chrome.

Thanks for all your efforts.

If I get the laptop back I will try the files I created.

I overcame this problem by uninstalling all my microsft updates related to ie11.
did a restart and then did a new download manually and installed with no problems.

Well Done! - it's not something that immediately springs to mind as a solution, so it may help others (and me!) in future.
