IE 8 back

Am I able to revert back to IE 8 and make it so it doesn't change versions automatically. I just found out I was using 11, when I started getting messages to that effect.

Is something not working for you while using IE11?

Yes - you can revert back to IE8 - but please don't. IE8 is not as safe as more recent versions.

If something is not working for you, then revert back one version and see how that works.

If you must revert, then revert to IE9, but not IE8.

Some do not like IE11 due to it interfering with gadgets, so I am hiding it when it's offered by WIndows Update, if necessary Uninstalling it in Windows Update>View Update History>Installed Updates.

It will revert to IE10 which is stable and fine. One should not go back further than that, and there is no good reason to do so.

Just use 10, it`s too soon to use 11, always wait awhile to use a new browser, a long while.

IE 8 was my favorite browser, I`ve never liked 9 or 10, so I just use Opera and Chrome, along with 10 when I have to.

I think IE9 is the best version. IE10 is ok but I like using FTP in windows explorer and IE10 breaks the ability to launch files/documents from my ftp drive. You have to drag a file locally and then launch it. Plus I use Sky Go and the TV guides don't work properly beyond IE9 even in a compatibility modes. IE11 is just plain awful though - leave that well alone for now. You'd hope IE12 would be better - but there is no guarantee Microsoft would make it available for Windows 7. I am surprised IE11 was actually made available for the OS as I think normally they stop offering it to an OS after about 3 release cycles.

Windows update might not offer another version,
You can however go to either of these download links and download it,
Uninstall ie11 properly and hide the ie11 update before attempting to download ie10 preferably or ie9,

Be sure to also try Firefox which is preferred by many of us here, does not spy like installed Google programs do full time, even protects you from spying by confining Google to a stable search box where it can't spy.

I don't install any Google programs or stay signed into any of their sites including YouTube. If you do Google is building such an intrusive profile of you that you will literally be stalked everywhere you go.

I am not reverting back to IE9 considering that google is no longer supporting, but I use yahoo mail anyhow, IE11 has too many bugs that need fixed, I will stick with IE10, I do have Chrome, but I only use it to watch my CBS shows, since an add-on works on Chrome, not mentioning it because I would be violating forum rules, it won't work on IE or Firefox at all

Yeah it's a shame google no longer supports ie9. It's even more of a shame ie10 and to a far greater extent ie11 are si diabolical. We get stick between a rock and a hard place because MS are in their current metro happy phase. Dumbing down and not QA testing software properly. IE9 is their most reliable and compatible browser but seen as out dated now. IE11 maybe fast etc but lacks reliability. They pushed it for bragging rights in benchmarks over Firefox/chrome that mean nothing to joe average. I want compatibility and reliability over something that renders 0.00000001 milliseconds over a rival browser!

IE10 is more secure than IE9.

I'm using IE11 on one computer and IE10 on another. Only one website does not work for me using IE11 and that is because IE11 dropped a string from the user agent. I suspect that this is the cause of lots of issues that people are seeing. The websites will have to change. I don't see MS changing that user agent string back to the way it was.

I too use Chrome and an extension for certain websites. And I use Pale Moon 64 bit (Firefox) for forums and a few other things. The point is, use what you need to use - but you might consider keeping IE11 around for certain websites.

Why should all the websites have to change just because MS in their infinite wisdom decides to fiddle yet again. Firefox and chrome manage to update themselves without breaking functionality. All IE11 has done is cause users grief. Flash no longer recognised on many sites etc. users are sick and tired of so called 'updates'. Change for the sake of change. It's not always a good thing MS. Why not consolidate, what once worked was doing just fine until the horrific advent of IE10 and IE11. ......and don't get me started about windows 8 / 8.1 !

You are assuming that the websites are correct and that MS is wrong.

Try this scenario:
...websites parse the user string in non standard ways (W3 standards)
...MS warns for years not to do that
...MS forces the user agent issue with IE11

Ok maybe your right but the user string stuff means little to me and joe public. Whoever is right, the end scenario is IE11 brings many glitches in. Over on adobes flash forum there is carnage with the problems IE11 has brought. They should not of messed with so much code. To be honest IE10 and 11 should never in my own humble opinion been made available to windows 7. They prob work better in windows 8 which I will not touch as it is a kindergarten OS which no business or serious user would touch.

they finally fixed all the bugs on IE10 on June's patch Tuesday which made me want to install it, you just have to give Microsoft until February or March to fix all the bugs, IE9 worked just fine when it was released, there was no bugs in it, but it is now considered "outdated" now that IE10 and 11 have been released
