Solved IE Hacker Problem

More reading, more confusion...and in my case it's not difficult to understand why more confusion. It's because I am not credentialed to read these stuffs. Some call it "(because the info was over my head)".

Speaking of over one's head: I find patients who read medical publication very difficult to manage in consultation room...they talk with technical words that are out of context, evidently lifted from internet sources and uttered authoritatively with zero understanding...not unlike trained talking parrots. So I would spend a great deal of time first to de-confuse them before tackling the health issues about which they came for professional help.

Now more confused after reading further on IE hacking problems, I find myself trying to find out if my OS has enhanced protection mode . I cannot find out. I tried Search and RUN in start menu... no result. Once again I am calling on those with better credentials. Help!

That link is about IE 10. Somehow I never got to use IE 10. I jumped from IE 9 with Vista to IE 11 with w7.

wait....yep, even in IE 11, EPM is available only with 64 bit.

Yep,
Sorry :(

Not sure what else can be said,
I would suggest reviewing your thread,
Everything has been covered/ windows update has been released to fix the decade old issue and nobody got infected with the dooms day over exaggerated articles had suggested even Homeland security has pie on their face ;)
Cheers.

Apparently some viruses are not common or old. Some are amenable to products that are not commonly known to be AV...like MBAM which claims it detects and removes viruses. Here is a comparative come-on publication from MBAM, straight from MBAM homepage:
316432d1399160855t-ie-hacker-problem-mbam2.png

Note that both free and pro versions claim to detect and remove viruses, among other malware.

Excellent find pappi! I'll concede that are correct. MBAM must detect/remove some viruses. I wonder why those at MBAM suggest: "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software." https://helpdesk.malwarebytes.org/e...bytes-Anti-Malware-replace-antivirus-software

There must be a reason for that statement. You might want to ferret it out before relying on MBAM as an AV app.

It boils down to which is better for what purpose. And for guiding users properly.

Both AV's and anti-malware products(at least the only one I know---MBAM) are anti-viral and anti-malware. I think it is right but incorrect to call AV' s AV, (right since they are the best in virus coverage) but (incorrect because it implies anti-virus is all they do); and MBAM an anti-malware (right since it is the best in non-viral malware coverage) but (incorrect because it implies non-viral malware coverage is all it does).

"There must be a reason for that statement. You might want to ferret it out before relying on MBAM as an AV app."

I never said I rely on MBAM as an AV app. I employ both concurrently: MSE for being superior to MBAM in virus coverage and on-demand MBAM(free version) for its superiority over MSE in non-viral malware coverage and for it's lack of real time protection (I am guessing, but I think two real time protections working at the same time can be conflicted and counter-productive).

So you may call them the way most do...and be more right than correct. Or be both right and correct if you use them concurrently the way MBAM suggests.

I must have gotten my threads mixed up. I thought you were considering using MBAM alone. My bad.

Thanks for the good discussion :-)

Just a note that Microsoft Security Essentials is not a very extensive antivirus product and though it is free and low on resource usage you would certainly be better protected by one of the other free antivirus products (assuming cost is your concern) such as avast! or Avira.

MBAM mainly deals with in the wild and zero day threats. Once we no longer see evidence of ongoing threats in the wild we will often remove detection from our database as it should now be covered by your antivirus. Antivirus typically has a huge database that can detect and remove stuff from 10 years ago, we do not.

I have confidently trusted the combo of MSE, MBAM and Adwcleaner. I have been sterile for nearly six months now of IE 11 in W7..

A better alternative to avast is panda,
But yes MSE and mabm premium is fine as wine used it for years,
Adwcleaner is not something you keep and use,
It needs to be uninstalled after use and re-downloaded to get a fresh copy,
But shouldn't be necessary to keep using,

This is better to use often,
Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,

And my personal favorite,

Removing temp files without knowing/understanding when to do so can potentially cause data loss that you cannot easily recover from. There are infections that move your data to the temporary file locations and if you just run a temporary file cleaner thinking you're going to have a better working system you may end up shooting yourself in the foot.

SUPERantispyware was an awesome product back in the day but isn't hardly worth talking about in terms of real security these days (IMHO).

Panda is okay but certainly no better than avast or avira (IMHO) and I'm not a big fan of all the Cloud stuff myself but more and more for good or bad people seem to want it or think they want it.
