I keep getting these errors when I go to sites I frequent (and as of 2 minutes ago, one that I dont any more thanks to Windows Live Mail). I will browse to the site, then I'll come back a little while later and the error will pop up and sometimes it takes all day for it to go away. I've never had this happen before. It just started happening when I cleared out my cookies and my temporary internet files while trying to set up my new router.

I use IE 8.

How do I get them to stop? And how do I fix them?

Which sites? It could be that they are experiencing intermittent problems at their end, or that a link on the chain betwen you and them is having difficulties.

Deviantart, a henna for hair site, and just a little bit ago it was hotmail.

The strange thing with the first two is that with dA I couldnt access deviantart.com, but I could access other parts of it, such as my own dA page. But when I tried to click the dA logo or access dA through google, the error would come up.

Something similar happened with the henna for hair site I go to. Its part of a much larger site and anything to do with hennaforhair.com I couldnt access, but every other page I could.

Hi, ACWN.

Since this seems to be happening on sites you visit regularly, I suggest closing all open tabs/windows except one (i.e., this page) and then clearing your cookies, cache and history. Restart IE8 and see if that solves the problem.

But this started happening AFTER I did just that, Corrine. I cant help but to be a bit leary of doing the same thing again when thats the only thing that has changed in the last 3 months.

And it isnt just sites I visit regularly because it happened with hotmail (twice, actually) and I dont go to that site any more - I only went earlier today because of some "maintenance" issue Hotmail was having this morning for 3 hours and I kept having to fight with a single account when my other two were fine.@_@

I'm not trying to argue, please dont think I am, I'm just trying to cover all bases so every one has all the information.

Just a note... I changed my security settings a little to see if that will change anything.

Hi, ACWN.

Not to worry. I didn't think you were arguing. :)

It really is puzzling that without any changes over the past 3 months (except security updates, I hope), you started getting the error.

Please make a note of the security setting changes you made so you can undo them if the problem isn't solved.

Do you have an alternate browser you can use for a bit to see if the error still occurs? That may help determine whether the problem is with the browser or a software or other problem on your computer.

Thanks, Corrine :)

The only thing I changed recently was that I cleared out my cache and cookies when I was installing my new network - the tech and I were trying to get into the signal expander/repeater's page. I was having issues with it and he had me clear that stuff out to see if it was a corrupted file that was preventing me from accessing it.

I know what I changed, so no worries about that. But I think that mightve had caused the 400 error issue, we shall see.

I dont use any other browsers as I dont like any others. I cant adjust to them and the settings are so different that it irritates the crap out of me.

These errors dont happen all the time or every day, its really random. The henna for hair forum one happened once, but it took a LONG time to clear up (all day). The dA error has happened like 3 - 5 times, but it clears up in a couple hours.

The network is secure. Password protected and it was set up properly. No one else has had problems. No one but the family knows what the password is.

Gotcha, if you are only one having a problem, it is not the router. That was just a shot in the dark.

easy way to verify - how about testing with a different browser?

ps: pretty sure the 400's are due to network connectivity issues (proxy or http filtering, for instance, on the router)

Carl- Nah, it was worth asking about.

Packet- As I told Corrine, I dont have any other browsers installed and replicating it on another browser would be a real pain because it doesnt happen all the time, it happens randomly. And since I am the only one in the house (of 3 laptops and 1 desktop) that is having this problem, its probably not the router settings.

Why don't you install Firefox on that computer to give you an alternate browser and a way to check things against IE?

I encounter this every now and then and I use IE as a check against FF. Usually the problem is the site itself or some server along the way.

could be upstream of your router - in which case, if you tried using another machine, it should eventually happen - unless your provider/provider peer/site itself cleared up that issue.

(yep, doesnt help)

Carl - Cause I cant stand FireFox. Worst comes to worse, if the security changes I made doesnt clear it up and it happens again, I'll install FF for a brief time to see if it does the same thing.

If you don't like FF, what about Chrome or Opera? All you need is alternate browser for those "special" occasions.

I havent tried any others. I've just been so used to IE that its what I use. I have a hard time adjusting to new settings on computers - switching from XP to Vista then to 7 was a real pain for me, lol.

I'll try one of them if/when it happens again.

There is another browser called Lunascape. You can run it in IE mode, FF mode or Chrome mode. Very versatile.
