Hi,

#1
Is there a way to totally remove a version of IE (e.g. 11, 10, 9, 8) incl all related files as well as all registry entries? And then cleanly and completely install that version with all related files and reg entries?

#2
Also, what is the way to get back to the initial install state of IE8 (on windows 7) incl the original (and only those) registry entries for IE8?

Thank you!
:)

Hello svnfrms2r

#1
Windows allows you to Turn Off certain Windows Features like Internet Explorer. That is the only safe way of removing the program.

#2
Either remove the Internet Explorer Updates, or perform a Repair Install.

w7 was never introduced with IE7 it started at IE8.

You can uninstall IE9/10/11 but your default will be IE8 - NOT GOOD.

Go with what Iko22 said just Turn Off whichever version you have installed
(not run any version of IE since installing W7 - but have installed IE updates)

Yep, did that, thanks for the tip :)

Problem now is, it only starts when run as admin. Is there a way to fix it?

Right, that IE7 mention was an error, I edited above post.

IE( is good, because it does not have so much crapware like IE10 or IE11, and because it bridges the xp and 7 world, ie consistency for xp apps and w7 apps.

AFAIK, office 2007 is using it to display some screens, and some programs may not be able to interact with later versions. Problem is, as long as it only works in admin mode, this might be hampered as well. So need to get it back into normal mode and as close to original install as possible. There must be something in the registry that prevents it from running as it was directly after SP1. Any ideas how to get it there without devastating reinstall?

Any help much appreciated, thank you!

Yes, the whole idea was to try different IE's to see which works best with office 2007, but no joy so far.

Need to get BCM 2007 to show the home screen properly again. It works in a VM with w7u64sp1, so there must be a way (hopefully /o reinstall). Otherwise I might just keep it in the VM and have one for each office version. Even with the official line that various office versions can run in parallel on one machine, it did not work when I put 2003 (without outlook) into a separate directory apart from office 2007 (with outlook, bcm, accouting pro, and it did work with all interactions and integrations).

Any ideas how to find out if it is at IE's end or where else it is creating the problem much appreciated, thank you.

Yes, user = admin and all runs under admin.
Let me know if I misunderstood any part of your above post.
Thank you!

Hi

The only other thing that might ba a problem is if your using shortcuts - the file associations may not be carrying over correctly.

Download Tweaking.com tool, (portable version)
select the following
Repair IE/Ink and permissions.

If that doesnt help, you could try a full reset using the System repair option - NO loss of personal data

Repair Install

First I tried with registry cleanup of iexplore mention, and ported working reg keys over as well as the directories for 32 and 64 bit version, which made at least the 32 bit version run without admin. But in the end I resorted to tweaking's IE repair, which registers 340, not half a dozen files, like some other tools, and impressively, that fixed it, and fast! It might be of interest, that first it did it in a way that the latest version of IE8 would be played in, but after seeing this, I ran it gain, but first using backups of the original folders of ie32/64, which tweaking took for registration, and both 32 and 64 versions now start without UAC dialogue.

Thanks everyone for your help!
:)

Thanks again for the tip re tweaking's repair of LNK and permissions, which in the end also fixed the kiosk mode (so moa can display the mht without needing to be in admin mode)...you were right about the link associations I guess! Many, many thanks for that :)))
